Baseball Picture of the Day: Calls from the Booths

Today… is… only… 12.. days… from… Pitchers… and… Catchers!

Today’s image doesn’t do much when it is small, but if you hit the top link such to see the big one, you’ll see the details you want.

Vin Scully, Rick Monday and Fernando Valenzuela are all visible in this image.

Tomorrow: Miami

L to R: Vin Scully, Mike Krukow, Dave Flemming, Rick Monday, Fernando Valenzuela, Pepe Yniguez (?), Erwin Higueros, and Tito Fuentes.

Wonder if Tito's still fighting fascism.

By the way, GB, when the first of these pictures went up I didn't think the series would do anything for me. And virtually every day you've proved me a curmudgeon. Great job.

Tito Fuentes' gonna be dead, and you're gonna say, "Oh, I've been listening to him for years, and I think he's fabulous."

Does anyone know if the Dodgers' Spanish-language radio broadcasts reach a larger audience than Scully's radio calls? In other words, are more people tuned in to hear Fernando's call of the game than listen to KABC's coverage?

It seems to me that if the answer is no, it won't be long before the Spanish audience in Los Angeles exceeds the English; and that might happen (or have happened) in about 5 other markets: San Diego; Anaheim; Arizona; Miami; and Houston.

Can't see much of Krukow's face, but from this angle he looks a lot like Buck Martinez.

I have heard that, yes, more are listening to Jaime Jarrin than Vin Scully. Jarrin's been in the booth since the Dodgers' second season in LA & is a Frick Award winner.

Good for Vin. I wouldn't want to be in the same booth as Monday either.

Tito Fuentes' signature was not looking like a bullfighter but walking up to the plate, bouncing the knob of the bat off it and flipping and grabbing it by the handle when he first got in the box.

As a note, I have been requested to tell all of you who took this image:

Photo is by Burns!

If a Vin Scully photo was going to be picture of the day, I'd have thought it would be this one.
