I hate to say this, as I know how this thread is going to go in response, but this really looks like the view a massive 400-foot tall giant would have as he mistook the stadium for a toilet.

It has been a while since 92/93 hasn't it?

I remember all of the excitement about Skydome when it first opened. Whatever happened to the woman who named it? I recall that she was given lifetime tickets to every event. Does she still have those tickets?

Really? Maybe it's the recent shots of vast open spaces in the lower decks, but you've got a decent amount of people in the upper deck there, so it doesn't seem that bad to me at all. Maybe I have super-low expectations.

Maybe, or perhaps its just a matter of me longing for the days when the SkyDome was filled to the brim on a nightly basis, and the Jays were a continuous contender.

Never saw it, it's great! I really, really wish we still had all the old stadiums.

I much rather watch a game in a classic "dump" like Fenway or Wrigley or even Yankee Stadium 2, than in these modern "luxury" stadiums.

The Sky Boxes in the old Capital Centre where the Bullets played were about this far away from the action, and completely soundproofed as well. Meanwhile in the year they won the NBA championship you could buy a courtside seat for seven bucks.

I saw a couple of games at the Rogers Center. I liked it. The only complaint was that part of the outfield was obscured the day we sat in the upper deck. Of course, this is one of the elder stadiums currently in use. Out of the mallparks I've been to, I think OPACY and Great American were the best. I didn't really care for new Busch and found Jacobs Field disappointing. But I'm more of a bleachers guy when I go on these SABR jaunts.

I dunno, since the same Connie Mack seat that would have cost you $13.12 in 2009 dollars, costs you $60.00 in the Bank. You can buy a lot of beer and nachos for $46.88.

OTOH if you've got a Fast Food Butt, you might not be able to fit into a Connie Mack seat, so there's that to consider.

Oh, I think the Lords of Baseball are savvy enough to figure out how to get more than $13.12 nowadays. :) Plus there's additional value to me in not smelling the decades-old vomit and urine smells in the bathrooms and concourses. CMS was a pit in its last days.

Jeez, when I went to Connie Mack all I could smell was the popcorn, the hot dogs and the cigars. I guess I should have hung out more in the bathrooms instead of in my seat. (smile)

I also liked that you could just leave the park by walking out through the right field wall and then just a few blocks to the North Philly station. Not to mention that it was a lot easier to sneak into than the Bank!

I've had an idea for a building that was a mile cubed (placed somewhere in the Great Plains, actually) since I was about 9 years old, so we can put the field on top of that.

Looking down on the stadium in Toronto makes me think of the classic video, shot from overhead, of Kenny Williams running back and forth between second and third base and then flying around third and leveling coach John McLaren. Can't believe that it's not available online somewhere.

Yeah, but there's no reason for that. Cleaning and maintenance are needed in any ballpark, regardless of age.

I'm guessing a lot of owners intentionally let the parks deteriorate intentionally in their quest for taxpayer largesse for new digs. And then once the new digs were underway, they just stopped any spending on upkeep of the old place.
