Kind of an experiment here - I've been tinkering with the software for awhile. Before anyone panics, this is not a dry run to replace game chatters, but simply an added feature we've wanted to do for awhile (and useful software that doesn't cost us bandwidth).

Dan, could you explain what this is for us non-techno savvy types?
   3. He's Bought a Bat Like Prince Fielder Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:38 PM (#3211517)
It's about time you guys did something like this. Not all of us know Szymborski or Dial or Emeigh on a personal level that we can just ask them random questions about baseball things.
   4. Dan Szymborski Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:40 PM (#3211523)
Snapper, do you see the window embedded in the page?

This software will allows us to cover some events and, assuming all the kinks are ironed out of using it on BTF, allows us to bring in guests for panel discussions.

Sid, people that don't know me can and do ask me random baseball questions all the time. I hardly think I'm inaccessible.

Having never met Dan in person, and having had several questions answered by him in the past, he is in fact very accessible.

I really hate these embedded chat applets. But if you think other people will enjoy it, hey, it's your site.
   7. Dan Szymborski Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:52 PM (#3211553)
Vlad, that's why it's an experiment! As I noted, the idea isn't to replace anything we currently have, but simply bring something new that might have value to our user base.

+1, Vlad.

he is in fact very accessible.
Too accessible, really.
In all seriousness, does anyone think that knowing one of those guys would actually make a bit of difference as to whether or not they'll answer your questions?
   9. Moe Greene Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:55 PM (#3211560)
Wow. Twitter... Embedded chat...

The times, they are a-changin'.
   10. Gamingboy Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:57 PM (#3211561)
MY GOD! Embedded chat! What sorcery is this!?!?!
   11. I Can See For Aaron Miles Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:58 PM (#3211562)
I'm looking forward to this. Zim guest paneled on Beyond the Box score's chat some time ago and him and Sky Kalkman answered a lot of questions in great deatail.
   12. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:58 PM (#3211563)
I'm talking as loud as I can, but nothing is showing up.

Are you gesticulating?
   14. snapper (history's 42nd greatest monster) Posted: June 09, 2009 at 07:59 PM (#3211569)
Now I see. Thanks!
   15. Moe Greene Posted: June 09, 2009 at 08:00 PM (#3211572)
Hmm... this webpage never stops loading in Firefox. I assume it's because of the chat app. Not sure how well that will go over with company IT.
   16. I Can See For Aaron Miles Posted: June 09, 2009 at 08:37 PM (#3211630)
Works for me.
   17. Andere Richtingen Posted: June 09, 2009 at 09:07 PM (#3211673)
Working fine. On Safari 4, no less.
   18. Dan Szymborski Posted: June 09, 2009 at 09:47 PM (#3211715)
Yeah, it seems to be working pretty well.
   19. DKDC Posted: June 09, 2009 at 09:50 PM (#3211716)
Doesn't work for me on IE6.
   20. Dan Szymborski Posted: June 09, 2009 at 10:04 PM (#3211732)
Bugger, I'll have to experiment more with IE6.
   21. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 09, 2009 at 10:41 PM (#3211782)
allows us to bring in guests for panel discussions.

I just knew that Michael Lewis chat would get rescheduled!
   22. Dan Szymborski Posted: June 09, 2009 at 11:48 PM (#3211922)
Seems to be working better now - had some internet issues.
   23. Hector Moreda & The Generalissimo Posted: June 10, 2009 at 12:46 AM (#3212204)
That worked out pretty well, Dan. Smooth updating, and the processor on my MacBook didn't freak out and zoom to 170 degrees.
   24. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 10, 2009 at 12:47 AM (#3212209)
That was fun.
   25. Dr Love Posted: June 10, 2009 at 12:48 AM (#3212220)
That went well for a first run. Maybe make it wider, but no real problems. The polls were a nice touch.
   26. Spivey Posted: June 10, 2009 at 01:04 AM (#3212323)
Seems like Gibson fell pretty far.
