Bay Bridge Baseball: The New New New New Barry Zito

Who wrote that headline? Benjy Benjamin? But hey…it’s baseball content!

“The first year I wanted to come out and wow everyone,” he said. “Then last year I really wanted to make sure,’Don’t worry guys, it’s all good.’ Now I’m past all that and back to having fun and pitching because I love pitching. I’m done trying to please everyone and do all that. Everyone ends up getting their expectations met when I focus on what I love to do, which is pitching.”

Zito also said that he’s going to try to do more extra-curricular activities during the season, because he figures it will help him get away from thinking about pitching 24/7.

“I’m a lot different than a lot of people — when baseball is my singular focus, it suffers,” he said. “When I have a lot of stuff going on it makes baseball better. I’ve been focusing on music, picked up the drums. I was taking driving lessons with my car (something like this).  It’s one thing to have a fast car and another thing to take it seriously and say ‘Yeah, I can (bleeping) drive this thing…

“When you have your only fun at the field, the rest of your life becomes a little blurry. We’re not just baseball guys who turn into silhouettes off the field.”

“The first year I wanted to come out and wow everyone,” he said.

You did.

Wow. He stinks.
Wow. San Francisco paid THAT much for this?
Wow. Is he going to go 0 and 25 this year?

I'm a little confused, is he just learning to drive now?

(I say this in as mocking a tone as possible, because at 25 I have never driven a car myself)

HIs extra-curricular activities this offseason were Paris HIlton and Winona Ryder.

Really? That's awesome

If I had to decide between devoting my efforts to the guys who were paying me $100+ million or hanging out with Winona Ryder I'd be hard-pressed to make a choice

Unless it was c. 1994 Winona. Then I'd gladly embarass myself infront of millions every 5th day and go home to her.
But I think I may not be entirely rational on the subject. Anyway, if this is the explanation for Zito's suckiness, then I don't hold it against him in the least.

Paris Hilton? Really?

A lot of men have spent the night inside the Hilton.

Best Regards

John

Paris Hilton? Really?

Which one of them are you saying should have done better?

Isn't Paris Hilton kinda the Barry Zito of whatever it is she does?

I haven't (and don't plan to) RTFA, but I'm guessing Barry used some of his filthy lucre to buy one of those cars that can go 200+ mph. I'd imagine driving one of those is a little different than trying to coax your Fiat onto the freeway.

The best part about the new new new new Barry Zito?

One less year on his contract.

Apparently he's also in the best shape of his life, so that'll help.

Interesting point from the linked linked Brian Wilson article:

apparently all the Giants have La-Z-Boys now:
SAN FRANCISCO — A black leather chair sits in front of Brian Wilson’s locker, exactly the same as those in front of every locker in the Giants clubhouse.
