BB-Ref Blog: Share Table (beta)

One of the underlying principles for the site has been to make it easy to share data. We’ve done that by supporting the baseball-databank.org and retrosheet and we’ve done that by providing options like CSV and PRE above each of the tables on the site.

These options are helpful to power users who understand excel and don’t mind taking a little time to learn new things, but for users who just want a quick and dirty table, it has always been a little too
hard to copy and paste what’s on the site. We’ve solved that problem and dramatically increased the ways and means you can share data on the site.

Just another feature to come on BB-Ref.  Pretty ####### cool as you can move columns around in javascript, etc and easily share the data.

It anyone gets a bug or needs an output format not supported by the tool right now, let me know. BTW, here are Babe Ruth's top ten slugging seasons. Took one minute.

edit: looks like I need a btf feature under pre-formatted. For now you can choose pre-formatted, bbcode and then change the <pre>'s to code's to get it to work.

Under pre-formatted output, there is now an option for code_wrap which will provide you with what you need to add a post to btf.

You're definitely some kind of warlock to get preformatted text to appear correctly in a comment here!

I just think this will come in handy for comparing players. No more copying to excel/notepad to delete columns I don't need. And to show the tables on bbtf so they're readable is a plus. Thanks Sean!

Has the joke already been made about fear of Sean eventually renaming his operation "Skynet"?

Edit: ee won't take the html table...other sites will, though, so that's a pretty cool feature.

puck, are you talking about btf or another site. You have a lot of different options for posting for one will likely work. For btf you have to use, pre-formatted and then click code wrap to get the proper code for btf. If you have another site it isn't working on let me know and I'll work on creating a solution.

Uh, if Skynet were bb-ref, it would have been too busy figuring out the top 25 stolen base percentages by a 35 year old, minimum 15 attempts, to start judgment day.
