Beane To Sign Extension Through 2019

General Manager Billy Beane and President Michael Crowley will remain with the Oakland Athletics through the 2019 season, club owner Lew Wolff said today in an interview with Bloomberg Television’s “Bloomberg West.”

“I view them as partners as well as executives,” Wolff said. “So if they are here another 30 years, that is fine with me. I may not be here to see it, but that will be fine.”

Don't know if Wolff is saying he'll be dead within 30 yrs, or no longer with the Athletics. If was still waiting in 2013 for a resolution on the San Jose situation, I'd be out the door.

I'm not sure I would take this as good news if I was an A's fan. Billy's 'woe-is-me' routine and constantly punting to Year 3 has gotten old. Be great or be terrible but don't be boring.

He's at least 70 years old, so it's a fairly safe bet that he'll be dead in 30 years.

Haven't reached the playoffs in 5 years... extend that man!

Billy Beane owns a part of the team, it probably would cost the A's a lot more to part ways with him. Even if they wanted to.

Even if they wanted to.

And why would they want to? Clearly winning isn't paramount to them right now. They're just trying to tread water until they get a new stadium. And he's a fine GM to have if you want to trade off assets and tread water going young. Plus he's a celeb now...Brad Pitt played him in a movie. Beane is a lifer if he wants to be.

Has Billy Beane jumped the shark? Is he now the "guy that used to be Billy Beane"? Was there somebody else who was actively seeking Beane?

The best decision Beane made for his career was to let Michael Lewis write a book about him.

The question is if he'll be with the "Oakland" Athletics at the time.
