Beatles Trading Cards in 2013 Topps Heritage Baseball

I only hope this contains the “Peter” Sutcliffe error card!

The Beatles are back in 2013 Topps Heritage Baseball, a set that looks back to 1964. The Fab Four are included on one of the set’s insert cards. Original buybacks are also part of the release.

1964 marked the year when the Beatles’ popularity really took off in America. The band arrived in the United States to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. Later in the year, they hit the road for shows across the country and were on the big screen for A Hard Day’s Night. Beatlemania had spread into a worldwide phenomenon.

Topps recognized this, producing seven different sets of Beatles trading cards in 1964. Although most are very fairly simple releases, they gave card collectors and Beatles fans some fun photos.

2013 Topps Heritage Baseball includes several specially marked Beatles buybacks. These are original Beatles cards, all from Topps’ 1964 run, with a foil stamp added to show they’re from the new release. The one set that doesn’t have buybacks is 1964 Topps Beatles Plaks. These are over-sized cards that, if inserted, would not fit in packs. Topps did not say how many of the buybacks have been included or what their insertion rates are.

Well, I guess that's what the kids want these days.

I'm not sure I understand this... so they're taking an original 1964 card and then, in 2013, putting a foil stamp on it?

EDIT: Maybe I need to understand what a "buyback" is to get this, but I don't.

I'm pretty sure that is indeed what a buyback is -- that is, a card from a vintage set included in a new series & stamped to identify it as such.

They damn well better. When my nephew was 8 years old, I gave him a CD of the "Beatles 1". He's now a Beatlemaniac, and constantly tells me that they're better than the crap that's on the radio.

True that.

The Pete Best card will be replaced by the Ringo Starr card after the first print run.

That's cause radio is dead. Who still listens to radio?

My sisters bought the originals of these. Weird that they lost them - I still have all of my baseball cards from back in the day.

The Bible has something to say about that: goes "When I was a child, I spake as a child, yadda yadda yadda." :>

I vaguely recall having Monkees cards when I was about 7-8. I was also a member of the Banana Splits fan club.

And wiki tells me that some of the Splits music was actually Al Kooper, Gene Pitney and Barry White ("Doin' the Banana Split" ... let the jokes begin!)

A man from New Jersey will be coming to your house looking for an address.
