HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

If the Angels can't hit Brian Johnson, I don't know what to tell you.

Brian Johnson

For those about to hit, we salute you.

HOW WILL THE REDS BEAT ANOTHER FIRST PLACE TEAM TODAY, MR PRESIDENT?!

Holy cow, I haven't gone to lunch yet (west coast) and this Marlins game is in the 7th. What time did they start, for crying out loud?
   5. Man o' Schwar Posted: June 28, 2018 at 02:45 PM (#5701682)
It's Florida - game over by 3, so everyone can get to Shoney's for early bird dinner by 4.
   6. PepTech, the Legendary Posted: June 28, 2018 at 03:00 PM (#5701696)
Looking ahead, I see Miami has another 12:10 scheduled start, on a Tuesday, before a home offday.

Must be so the Braves can manage to get home before a Thursday night game. On foot.

Listen, mister, if the Angels don't win today, I'm a gonna make-a a phone call. This thing, she's a gone far enough.

Rizzo finally gets a hit and tries to turn it into a double but the throw beats him by 10 feet.

He's a bit out of practice knowing what to do when on base.

So, apropos of nothing, the missus and I will be making our first visit to Coors Field on the 4th. Comments/suggestions/etc. from those who've been there are welcome.
   11. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 03:51 PM (#5701736)
Walk the pitcher who's try to scan bunt, and you will give up a 2 out run scoring hit. It's a rule.
   12. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 03:52 PM (#5701737)
It's awesome. Been a while since I've been there. Great views from the first base side. Stay close downtown, and walk there. Anything more specific will have to come from someone else.
   13. Spahn Insane Posted: June 28, 2018 at 03:52 PM (#5701738)
The Cub rotation, which I was pretty excited about coming into the year, is an absolute train wreck.

Yeah, we're staying downtown (now that the property containing the airbnb we'd reserved was bought out, and the new owners cancelled all the airbnb reservations), so that's not a worry. I figure the 4th will be a madhouse, so we're not planning on driving anyplace.

I'll have to ask her what section we're in. Anyway, glad to hear you liked it. We're looking forward to it. I'm grateful for the evening start, as it's supposed to be in the 90s in Denver all week. Well, except today, when it's supposed to be 102.
   15. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:02 PM (#5701748)
Then Quintana can't get the sac bunt down, swings with 2 strikes and grounds into a DP.

I find the Cubs almost impossible to watch lately.
   17. Spahn Insane Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:04 PM (#5701751)
Actually, I erred--it's 104 in Denver, with a 111-degree heat index. Since that heat index is notwithstanding 6 (!) percent humidity and a 37-degree dewpoint, I reckon that's some particularly intense sunshine (along with almost no wind).
   18. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:08 PM (#5701755)
Javy locked
   19. Spahn Insane Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:12 PM (#5701759)
Ah--we're in L321 at Coors, which is even with the first base bag. Excellent. Looks like a pretty similar location to my Wrigley seats, actually. (Speaking of, I'm dumping my season tix after this year.)
   20. Spahn Insane Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:18 PM (#5701763)
Also, who the hell's this Max Muncy character? I don't think I'd even heard of him before the Dodgers' last trip to Wrigley, and he's tearing it up.
   21. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:20 PM (#5701765)
As they say, the highs are higher in Denver. Maybe someone says that.
   22. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:20 PM (#5701766)
Muncy is this year's Taylor.

Kershaw and quintana don't have the zone zone today.
   25. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:44 PM (#5701784)
Buehler isn't fooling the Cubs at all. All 4 guys smoked the ball off him.
   26. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 04:50 PM (#5701789)
Hard to tell if someone is slumping when they only get a handful of ABs a week, but lastella is slumping.

A rehab appearance against the Cubs, even this lesser version, is not the same as against the mets.
   30. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 05:09 PM (#5701816)
Seriously only guy who hasn't smoked the ball off buehler was tls.

#29 -- my thoughts, too... Is it odd that the Dodgers would sacrifice this game to that purpose? They have definitely blurred the line between LA and OKC.
   36. frannyzoo Posted: June 28, 2018 at 05:34 PM (#5701834)
Maybe this has been up for a while and I missed it, but MLB.TV seems to have worked out the kinks to allow watching four games simultaneously. Ahhh...

Meanwhile, no Diaz today for the Ms and it's 2-2 in the 9th, now bottom nine. This could be difficult, even against the O's.
   37. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 05:47 PM (#5701845)
#29 -- my thoughts, too... Is it odd that the Dodgers would sacrifice this game to that purpose? They have definitely blurred the line between LA and OKC.

I'd say they just were cocky.
   38. perros Posted: June 28, 2018 at 05:57 PM (#5701849)
Oh yeah. The thing is this management hasn't translated too well come the playoffs, but maybe it will in time.
   39. frannyzoo Posted: June 28, 2018 at 05:58 PM (#5701850)
Man the O's are bad. Man.
   40. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:10 PM (#5701853)
11-5, two outs, bottom of the 9th, nobody on...Maddon makes a pitching change, going to Morrow "just to get him into the game to face a hitter," sez Pat & Ron. Managering.
   41. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:11 PM (#5701854)
Heh, I kind of am amused by this pitching change. Morrow didn't get a rehab appearance, so now's as good as ever. I also am kinda done with Farrell, his k/bb is the best of the AAA guys that have been up, but he's been the overall least impressive (outside that long stint against the Mets but you know it was the Mets).
   42. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:11 PM (#5701855)
Dude, it's not managering. Not terrible to let him throw when it doesn't matter, if they're not gonna make him go to Iowa.

I get why it's annoying of course. But it is what they said.
   43. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:13 PM (#5701857)
A major component of managering is obnoxiously wasting everyone's time with bullpen machinations. If he wants to bring Morrow in to start the ninth of a blowout to ease him back in, no problem. But "just to face a hitter," that's just obnoxious.
   44. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:14 PM (#5701858)
Surprisingly he wasn't sharp. But now he's been in a game, and can still go tomorrow thrwoing only a fee pitches. Win win.
   45. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:15 PM (#5701859)
Your time is nowhere near his job responsibilities.
   46. perros Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:15 PM (#5701860)
Max Muncy can't be this good, can he?
   47. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:17 PM (#5701861)
Your time is nowhere near his job responsibilities.
Writ large, it most certainly is - or, more accurately, it should be enforced upon him that it is. Not my time specifically, of course, but wasting the fans' time as a whole has gotten to the point where it compromises the entertainment value of the sport. Maintaining that value should be part of everyone's job responsibilities for the future health of the sport.
   48. PepTech, the Legendary Posted: June 28, 2018 at 06:29 PM (#5701862)
As an M's fan it's difficult, but I'm finally starting to think maybe there might be a chance that they don't suck this year.

They blew a couple in NY and BOS they should have won, but they still finished the toughest stretch of their schedule by going 14-9 and are well poised for finishing the first half against struggling teams. The starting pitching has been surprisingly consistent, the defense has been superb for the most part, and they managed not to throw in the towel after losing Cano. The sad part is, they could legitimately win 100 games and not compete for the division title. Also, Diaz' arm might fall off; he's at 42 IP for his 30 saves (F Rodriguez threw 68 IP in his 62 save year, and that was a lot for closers these days).

Bryce Harper out for the season. Broken ankle.

Damn, not.

boo, Red Sox down 1-0. Still hope though as Angels bullpen still to come!

Sorry Hombre as there is nothing worse then a sh*tty bullpen to dash all of one's hopes...

ATAT where are you seeing that?
   54. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 08:45 PM (#5701919)
That's a generous ####### strike zone they're giving the Sox reliever.
   55. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 08:48 PM (#5701923)
And that's probably the ballgame.
   56. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 08:52 PM (#5701926)
Oooh, Devers ties it.

This one is coming down to bullpens...recent results suggest the Red Sox have a better then 50/50 chance.
   57. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 09:03 PM (#5701938)
There's no chance the Angel bullpen can hold a close game. We all know it. So do they.
   58. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5701943)
There's no chance the Angel bullpen can hold a close game.

Eh, there's always a chance. Recent history suggests it's not a great chance and things are really working against them(at Fenway, Red Sox rolling, etc), but there is a chance.

The Angels are my second favourite Al team and seeing them lose Ohtani AND waste so many games in the last 3 innings is depressing. They really should be 3-4 wins better at least in the standings.
   59. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 09:20 PM (#5701955)
Sigh.

I'm at a point where I just don't enjoy watching baseball games anymore. This team is just ruining my passion for the game.
   60. Jose is an Absurd Force of Nature Posted: June 28, 2018 at 09:28 PM (#5701961)
This feels like an important outing for Workman. It’s a chance to push himself more into the mix for high leverage innings.
   61. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 09:38 PM (#5701965)
yep, the Angels bullpen really stinks.....

Until it is enforced on him, it absolutely isn't.

129 pitches

Joe Kelly now auditioning for a spot in the Angels pen...
   65. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5701983)
Joe escapes the 8th ONLY giving up 1 run, 2 hits and a BB. Not really fooling anyone there, but did enough for Kimbrel to hopefully lock it down in the 9th.
   66. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5701988)
Are you f*cking kidding me? Kimbrel walks the .169 BA corpse of Calhoun on 4 pitches...
   67. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:17 PM (#5701989)
K's Kinsler and now of course Trout is up. Who has done nothing against the Sox all year is way over due to punish the 4 pitch BB given to Calhoun
   68. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5701992)
Disgusting.
   69. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5701993)
OK, so he K's Trout. Game over, Sox increase lead in East. A good day all around.
   70. Jose is an Absurd Force of Nature Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5701994)
If I read the stat on NESN right that’s the first time Trout has faced a team at least 6 times in a season and not had an XBH.
   71. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 28, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5702001)
The Angels were in first place six weeks ago. This loss is their sixth in a row, and drops them down to .500. They were 10 games over .500 at one point. The season's been in freefall for almost six weeks. When they crater, a lot of coaches and management are going to be former coaches and management.

That's the absolute effectiveness of the bend but don't break bullpen! Walk Calhoun on 4 pitches, then K Trout....how easy is that.

I think it was Andy(the NY pants pisser) who had the Trout stats against Bos and NY and he's OPSing like .600 against Boston and something like 1.450 against NY. Maybe when his contract is up he can come and man CF for Boston and can then tee off against NY like 20 times a year.
   73. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: June 28, 2018 at 11:11 PM (#5702018)

Well Trout is clearly a commie from the working class suburbs of NJ.

Aren't those the same suburbs that spawned champions of the working class man like Springsteen and Bon Jovi? They must all be commies in NJ!

Wait, that's not right, I got relos in NJ and my cousin Robert is an investment banker and lives in Jersey, surely he's not a commie? Dude has like $30 mil.
