If Mench or Wilkerson leave via trade, you still have Dellucci for the outfield (though there are concerns about Dellucci's ability to play the outfield every day), Tex will obviously get the lion's share of starts at first, and with Nevin in the mix at DH and Botts/Matthews in the mix in the outfield, Gonzalez gets squeezed.
Best case scenario, I suppose, for Gonzalez is that Mench leaves, Nix doesn't start well, Botts doesn't show anything in spring training, and the Rangers look to put Wilkerson in center.

Report: Rangers add Eaton to rotation

The Padres spent big to keep free agents Brian Giles and Trevor Hoffman. And now they're paying the price.
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that San Diego has dealt pitchers Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka and a minor-league prospect to the Texas Rangers in return for Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez and Terrmel Sledge.
The move is likely a cost-cutting one; Eaton is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2006 season and would likely have come with a hefty price tag.
Eaton went 11-5 with the Padres last year, but threw only 128 2/3 innings due to a middle finger strain.
Who is Chris Young? I don't recall AZ trading him to Texas... :)
That makes close to no sense at all, so I assume the Rangers did it.
Wasn't Young supposed to be the only pitcher guaranteed a spot in the Rangers' rotation?
