Beltran, Cashman talked about job, but that may not be enough | New York Post

It sounds like Beltran could be a good manager some day. I expect he’ll take a year or two off. Then spend a few years coaching before becoming a manager.

Carlos Beltran wants to manage and has talked to Brian Cashman to express that desire. Is that enough to get him into the running to replace Joe Girardi?

Probably not. In a text, Beltran said Tuesday that he had yet to be asked to come in for an interview and since the Yankees are nearing the end of the first phase of interviews, that would strongly indicate Beltran is not in play to be the next manager.

I agree with that assessment, Jim. I suspect he'd be good. But a sabbatical is good for people. As is, most likely, a little bit of training before jumping into the Bronx big seat.

I don't know if they are close, but Beltran was briefly a Mets teammate with Alex Cora, and they were both part of the Astros recently, so maybe he could join the Sox organization in some capacity.

I agree that a little bit of training would be helpful for Beltran (or anyone else). However, based on how Brian Cashman is conducting his search, I'm not sure he necessarily agrees with that. I am starting to think he may be in for a rude awakening.

Well, the only zero experience candidate who has been confirmed is Boone. The others have all been coaches at some level (Thomson, Meulens, Wedge), and they're saying Chris Woodward, who is also a coach.

Being a third-generation major leaguer should be assumed to carry some degree of experience in this regard.

Me personally, I'm holding out for Alex Rodriguez.

Ted Turner has experience. They should call him. Kick the tires.

Ted Turner needs to start a wrestling company and salvage the soiled reputation of that once-proud sport.

Ted Turner knew and appreciated pro-rasslin better than any other executive in media history.

Indeed so.

I generally prefer heel turns to face turns, but Turner's was interesting.

I think Cashman was just trolling the Red Sox there, but perhaps he finds it so amusing he'll actually give Boone the job. You'd think he would want someone with experience, but he had that in Girardi.

The only no experience candidate to be considered is white. I'm dying of not surprise over here.

Russ fights the power. Stay strong my brother.

Rumors tonight say Aaron Boone is likely to be The Chosen One. I guess he had a great interview, although I have some doubt that measures much about actual managing. Could work, but it's not obvious to me why moving out Girardi for Boone is an improvement.

Whatever happened to Jason Giambi? When he retired he was said to be interested in managing. Is he coaching for anyone?
