Bichette may fit in with Oakland

The Boston Herald writer also mentions that the A’s might be interested in Vinny Castilla. After those two acquisitions, expect Rickey Henderson’s and Jose Canseco’s triumphant returns.

Saints preserve us! Please, please, Billy, say it ain't so. Dante Bichette? On the A's? This man has a five-year road OBP of .310. He's the antithesis of the plate approached preached by Oakland throughout the organization. His career walk rate is about 5%. Anywhere but Coors he's a mediocre slugger who makes out almost 70% of the time. Same goes for Castilla.

OK, Saenz is not hitting right now. Neither are most of the other A's. After Saenz finally got a shot with the A's, in about a full season's worth of PAs, he's got .288 .374 .487 .861 stats, 30 doubles and 20 homers. Maybe he won't rebound, but I'm sure Billy Beane can find somebody who can hit as well or better than Bichette and/or Castilla for a hell of a lot less money than they're being paid.

Cheers,
