RE: The headline...That the Yankees allowed 0 runs is the overwhelming reason they topped the Indians. Scoring only one run will lose the game the vast majority of the time.

Judge issuing a Writ of Replevin to return Lindor's drive to the ballpark was also a big postseason moment. One of many he & Bird may enjoy over the next decade or so.

I like that description.

Turn back the clock to a silly Bill Madden column (is there any other kind?) from July in which he laughably suggests -- complete with the obligatory "anonymous" quote from a "Yankee insider" -- that Greg Bird is faking an injury because Bird simply doesn't want to play major league baseball.

This is why I have such contempt for the media.

"Much as the Torres and Fowler injuries were downright heartbreaking, the Bird mystery ankle bruise has become merely annoying. Despite numerous tests that have turned up nothing, Bird continues to insist the ankle is still sore — too sore to allow him to play. The Yankee brass has become exasperated with Bird, who’s never been able to stay healthy, and it has gotten to the point where if he doesn’t get back on the field after the All-Star break, they are prepared to move him over the winter.

“You really have to wonder what’s with this guy,” a Yankee insider complained to me earlier this week. “You’d think with Judge and Sanchez, the guys he came up through the system with, doing so well up here he’d want to be a part of this. Apparently not.”

To review, we're supposed to believe that just as Bird was being handed the Yankees' 1B job for good, he no longer was very interested in playing major league baseball, or in making a name for himself, or in making big money.

"You'd think he'd want to be a part of this. Apparently not."
-- signed, Bill Madden

So do you have contempt for BTF because of comments by people you don't agree with? Or is it that Bill Madden was elected as the media's sole spokesman?

Madden's an idiot, but maybe, just maybe, he wasn't speaking for all of his fellow writers, any more than you or I speak for all of BTF.

I can't disagree with Ray's contempt for Madden. Madden has devolved into a hack who no longer can write a cogent and intelligent column since the passing of George, his main source inside the team.

Unfortunately, that kind of nonsensical story is the rule, not the exception.

I didn't say Madden was the media's "sole spokesman" or that he was "speaking for the media."

I said (implied) that he is representative of the media.

I do agree with Ray and Supporter here, a rare thing. Honestly any piece that seeks to assume someone's will to do anything is usually going to be just awful.

It's like, did A-Rod not really want to win when he hit poorly but then in 09 he decided "okay I think i would like to win this time lol finally."

You also said you have "contempt for the media". You didn't say "some of the media".

Madden's no more "representative of the media" than Posnanski or Boswell. It's like saying that you're "representative of white people".

It's just a stupid generalization. Why can't you just say "that's why I have such contempt for Madden"? Or would that deprive you of your anti-media virtue signaling?

I'm going to have to sign up for that sort of virtue signaling. It's just too much work to individually condemn all the bad writers out there. In the LA area you've got Plaschke and Simers, who regularly write stuff every bit as bad as this by Madden. There are some in every team's market. And there are some very good reporters out there too.

I think it's valid to condemn "the media" because this is an institutional problem. So many of these reporters who say stuff like this get attention and page views, which is what they are after of course since they need to pay the bills. They are part of the problem, but so are we, the audience, because we won't tune them out and ignore them.

No audience, no problem.

But once you've figured out which writers are worth reading and which writers aren't, which shouldn't take long in the case of the Maddens, why not just stick to the ones that are worth reading and let the Rays of the world spend their time complaining about the ones that aren't? There are enough good writers on all subjects to fill up anyone's time. Why waste your time on the Maddens?

It's like spending your hours surfing Drudge or Breitbart and then getting all outraged about their lying ways. It just doesn't make much sense.

I would sign up for Ray's statement if it were amended to say "This is why I have such contempt for the commentariat."
