Blue Jays lose Adam Lind following loss to Angels

The list of the Blue Jays’ walking wounded grew, in a literal sense, on Wednesday when it was learned after Toronto’s 8-7 loss to the Angels that DH Adam Lind is suffering from a non-displaced fracture of the bone in his right foot that connects to the big toe. He injured the foot in Baltimore on June 14 but did not have an MRI done until Tuesday in California.

“My mom wanted me to get an MRI, which I hadn’t had yet,” Lind said. “It wasn’t getting any better, so I asked for an MRI and it showed up. The doctors here said six to eight weeks. I’m going to go to Charlotte on Friday, see the doctor there. They’re hoping it’s a better diagnosis than the doctors here.”

The injury occurred 25 days ago. He missed the next four days. Lind was asked if he was surprised that it took so long to discover the fracture. He paused before answering.

“I don’t know if I’m surprised,” he said. “They just said a bone bruise (in Baltimore). They said you couldn’t do any more damage. I wasn’t showing any improvement and I’d had enough, really. I needed another exam, an X-ray and a CT scan.”

In the Blue Jays defense, Adam Lind's mom is a science teacher, so she's not a total amateur or anything.

Big deal. If she didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, then her opinion holds no value.

Did they look in the couch cushions? I always find stuff there.

the headline made it seem like lind had been misplaced..... or was spinal tap-esquely wondering around the tunnels of angel stadium.

This in just an absolute embarrassment for the Jays medical staff.

The Jays' medical staff has been a running joke throughout the Anthopoulos Era and going back into the Ricciardi Era, I'm pretty sure.

Orioles are gonna win this thing by dee-fault! The two sweetest words in the English language.

The joke during the Ricciardi era was more about statements like "They're not lies if we know the truth" - not so much the injuries, but the masking of the injuries.

Under AA, it does seem that there have been quite a few missed or misdiagnosed injuries. This one is still at best second worse, only because of the whole tumor on his spine thing they missed with Melky last year.

Not relevant at all to the topic at hand, but I went to a few Jays games a couple weeks ago, always with seats down the third base line. It was fun seeing the team's pre-game warm up. Reyes and Mastroianni came out and did a whole series of leg related exercises and sprinting, Kawasaki did his contortionist stuff...and Adam Lind ambled out each day to joke around with the trainer, every now and then stretching an arm for a few milliseconds in a vague kind of way.

Lind seems like the closest thing to if one of us was playing professional baseball, and for that he will be missed.

They really need to hire somebody from the Phoenix Suns to fix their training staff. Going to lose the division due to a brazillion injuries.

Is this a roundabout reference to Neymar's broken vertebrae and the recent acquisition of cyborg-spined Nolan Reimold?

Or have I been watching too much World Cup...

So ... Edwin Encarnacion is actually dead, & I might as well cut him from my fantasy team?

At least the pitching has stayed relatively intact.

In terms of position players, they could actually use Soriano. Any word on when Lawrie comes back? Their infield's looking pretty thin right now.

Yeah, but what other club's team physician has two World Series rings as a player?

You can't rely on the medical care in these foreign countries.
