Blue Jays release Stewart

Another slam dunk for JP Ricciardi. Reed’s 948 OPS vs. LHP would have fit nicely platooning for Lind and Stairs, and his 808 OPS would have been 2nd on the team behind…Adam Lind (who was kept down for 2 months of the season). Two years of Reed were cut for Shannon Stewart’s 628 OPS.

how comes no one's posted about the Dunn trade?

EDIT: never mind; someone did

No real surprise, although I hope Brad Wilkerson will also be shown the door in the near future. While Buck Coats probably wouldn't be much of an upgrade (if he is one at all), I'd rather give the younger player an audition to be the backup outfielder for next season.

Can't add anything to the intro except how obvious the whole sequence of events was even at the time.

Well at least JP didn't publicly disparage him. Its come to the point where this is the only praise Riccardi now receives.

Good thing they dumped Frank Thomas.

? What does Frank Thomas have to do with Shannon Stewart? If you want to criticize J.P. on this one, stick to Reed Johnson.

Uh, Thomas went with Stewart still on the 40 & 25 with his craptastic recent record and season.

The Blue Jays now have four minority players on the 25-man roster - Wells, Rios, Scutaro, and Barajas - which is the same number they (we) had at the time of the "White Jays" article.

Okay, I'll take the bait. What do you think the significance of this is Keith?
   10. Designated Sitter (GGC) Posted: August 12, 2008 at 02:49 AM (#2899286)
Not that it really matters, but I think that Scutaro is as much a minority as Manu Ginobli is.

I don't know how you define "minority," but Scutaro and Barajas?
   12. Crispix Attacks Posted: August 12, 2008 at 04:07 AM (#2899313)
Barajas is a very pale Latino who has lived in the US (and Canada) his whole life.

Rios was born in the US too, though he went to school in Puerto Rico.

And Scutaro is as white as Justin Masterson, although he comes from Venezuela.

Oh Keith. Dude.

I mean. Dude.

Keith, are you implying that the Jays actually have an anti-minority agenda?

Yes, only a minority of major leaguers are outstanding hitters. J.P. Ricciardi avoids them like the plague.

Now "character" ... that'll win you some pennants.*

Best Regards

John

I think he's just saying that he was scathed for such a roster, and yet, this one is doesn't have that stink.

Allard can finally get Shannon Stewart, to complete the Dye to Oakland, Neifi to Toronto, Stewart to KC deal!

(wait, you mean that Allard isn't GM and that Stewart sucks now?)

Shannon Stewart might be useful to KC purely because he hits right-handed.. but he also doesn't play anywhere other than left field.

At this point in his career, he barely plays left field.
