Bob Uecker to get statue in last row at Miller Park

Brewers Hall of Fame radio voice Bob Uecker, who has a statue outside of Miller Park, soon will have one inside the stadium.

The Brewers announced Wednesday that Uecker will be honored with a statue in the last row of the Terrace Level at Miller Park.

The statue will pay tribute to the popular Miller Lite “All Stars” ad campaign which featured Uecker’s famous tagline, “I must be in the front row.” In the commercial, Uecker ended up in the last row. instead of the great seats he expected.

The statue will sit atop the Uecker Seats in the Terrace Level (Section 422) and will feature an open seat next to it allowing for a perfect photo opportunity. It will be dedicated on the afternoon of Friday, April 25, with more details provided as that date approaches.

“I can’t think of a better place to put this statue,” Uecker said. “This will be great for fans and even better for pigeons.  You might even be able to see a little part of the field.”

Thanks to Los.

This seems like a fairly inconsequential, but fun thing to do. Good for the Brewers.

(A bit of a non-sequitur, but one of my favorite statues is in Philly, somewhere around 17th or 18th Street. It's of a "guy" hailing a cab, on a regular, non-park/plaza block).

Weird. I tried explaining the significance of this to my 14 YO, and then decided to just have him watch the commercial on You Tube. There are a host of Uecker Miller Lite commercials available, but not the "front row" one. Found another site via google that claimed to have it, but the video was taken down for copyright infringement. Can't find it anywhere online.

"Allow Me" by J. Seward Johnson, Jr.

I liked "Allow Me" better at it's prior location, which was when it was on 17th street.

Has any 30-second commercial ever had so many quotable lines? Practically the whole thing is quotable, from "Called the front office -- bingo" to "Mine must be in the front rowwww" to "Great seats, huh buddy? HE MISSED THE TAG! HE MISSED THE TAG!" And Uecker's delivery is spot on throughout. He really was a good comic actor.

6/7, thanks.

I haven't been to that part of Philly in at least 10 years (and probably not since 2000), so I was going from memory.

Cleveland should really have a Uecker statue somewhere.

For me as a baseball fan and non beer-drinker it's the greatest beer commercial of all time. I still utter "I must be in the front rowww..." when navigating to my seats in a theater.

This is a fantastic tribute for Uecker.

Agree.

Just a few weeks ago, I was wondering if my frequent use of the phrase "Uecker Seats" was something that was lost on younger generations--then I was dismayed not to be able to find "the" Uecker commercial online. I think it's great that Milwaukee sells Uecker Seats and that they are celebrating him in this way.

We can watch Matt Garza pitch from this vantage now I see. 4/52.

That "front row!" ad must have gotten pulled in about the last 6 months or so. I distinctly remember viewing it on YouTube within that time frame.

This is a national travesty that must be corrected at once! (I mean the missing video, not Uecker's statue.)

Who would pull them? I can't imagine Miller Brewer Company not wanting folks going online to voluntarily watch ads for their product.

Somehow, Bob Uecker should get the first Bud Selig award. It would be befitting for all the dignity the award seeks to entail.

Now if the Orioles could only do something like that for Wild Bill Hagy....though they have inducted him into their Hall of Fame.

I imagine if they create a photo opportunity for the Bud Selig award it won't get quite as much use.

there is a Bud statue outside Miller Park. I would imagine there are some obscene images on various mobile devices which include this imagery.

In the "Chicks dig the long ball" thread a couple weeks ago, this commercial was my suggestion for the best baseball commercial ever. Where were y'all then?
