Jenks won't be released. He's got one year left and he's on the 60 day DL, probably for the year so there is no real purpose to it. Lackey will have two years left on his deal after this year so I think he has a shot to suck enough upon his return to get himself released. I think Crawford will at worst be good enough to suffer through, the Sox are on the hook for the money there and I think he is likely to bounce back. His contract length makes it a possibility though.

You know, I hate it when people bring this argument up. People keep insisting that performing in NY is some kind of incredible feat. But Stalin competed for a long-ass time, on a world stage, and out-does Hitler both in terms of longevity and in terms of slaughter.
That's without even discussing Hitler's poor end-of-career situation.

I think the stats are pretty unreliable. Sure, he claims he slaughtered millions of people, but we don't have the box scores.
One of my favorite genetic facts is that Genghis has 16 million direct male-line descendants*, 8% of the male population in former Mongol lands. So he didn't just kill people, he did his part to replace them. Of course, a lot of credit has to go to the work rate of his descendants too.
*) That is, they carry his Y-chromosome, only transferred from father to son. Which is what makes the number so impressive.

Ayup... and they'd have the best nicknames in the HoF to boot.
That has nothing to do with Genghis, but is simply a product of the fact that as you go back into the past, the number of ancestors you has increases, while the human population decreases. As a result, once you go far enough back, everybody's family tree overlaps. So if you pick a random person alive in A.D. 1 (as a guesstimate), either everyone on Earth will be a direct descendent of theirs, or nobody will be.
Genghis isn't quite that far back, but I think you could pick a random bodyguard of his and find just as many descendants alive today (or no descendants). In fact we don't know that the Y-chromosome group descends from Genghis, that's just a modern supposition.

The impressive part of it is that 16 million males have his Y-chromosome, which isn't mixed up like that. Basically everybody around is a relative of Genghis. But for those 16 million, Genghis is their father's father's father's .... etc ... father*. And to do that you have to get around**. There are some other nexuses of horniness around, mostly guys with huge harems and high stamina.

So are genealogists promoting this awesome factoid even though they know it's totally unremarkable? My impression was, when reading about this, that it's highly unusual to be able to trace so many people to the same to one starting point 1,000 years ago.

You know these "facts" and "science" are really breaking up the flow of dictator snark.
Tamerlane could soak the steppes in blood, subjugate the Persians, restore the Mongol Empire, and be back in bed underneath the covers before the lights went out.
I don't think this is so much a matter of having harems as going around conquering villages, murdering everyone and resettling them with your own clan members. And raping all the women.
I have gone to the last 12-13 Spring Trainings in Ft. Myers and until this year I would drive by Babes going to/from the ballpark. If you were going to call a Hollywood prop department and say "find me a place that looks like the scuzziest strip bar possible" they would scour the country until they found Babes. My family has long wondered if the players ever made their way in there and...yup.
If the number for Genghis is 8% of the male Mongolian population, and that number is about what you'd expect for anyone from his generation, wouldn't that mean there were only 12 or so men living in Mongolia by the time Genghis was done? If that's true, then his genocide skills are criminally underrated by the traditional media.
I mean calling a short-tempered sociopath who happens to be a military genius and has a large army, "Timmy the Gimp" doesn't sound wise to me. I mean, he may not be offended but why take the chance?
