Bobby Valentine to Make Weekly Appearances on ‘The Michael Kay Show’

Well, after Michael the Kay said the other day that Robbie Cano was better than Rod Carew…I guess anything goes.

ESPN-1050 has signed Valentine to do a weekly manager’s segment on “The Michael Kay Show.” Not only is 1050’s move unprecedented, but it has Kay, the TV voice of the Yankees, squaring off against Valentine, the manager of the hated Red Sox….

...“Why, there aren’t any Boston fans in New York?” Valentine said when quizzed by reporters Wednesday afternoon about appearing on New York radio. “I’ve known Michael for a long time; I’m known ESPN for a long time. They asked and I agreed.”

The move will not sit well with a segment of Yankees fans who can’t stand the Red Sox and already despise Valentine. But ESPN-1050 suits are hoping these fans will tune into hear this man they love to hate.

...These yakkers have created buzz and headlines, bringing added recognition to the radio station. Yet when it comes to baseball there’s a huge void. Not only does 1050 not have radio rights to either the Yankees or Mets, it doesn’t have any significant baseball personalities under contract.

Now, with Valentine, it does. No doubt he will use the station to fan the flames and tweak Bombers fans, especially during every Yankees-Red Sox series.

This could be fun.

1050 AM should spend their money enhancing their signal rather than on giving Bobby V a platform in NYC

The folks in Boston who already thought he was a self-publicity hound are now suggesting he won't have time left to actually manage the team, as if a manager having a weekly segment on sports talk radio were a new thing.

Terry Francona never had a weekly segment on a radio show!

(except for the weekly segment he did with WEEI but that doesn't count).

I'm sure there will be no shortage of volunteers to help Michael brush up on his cross-examination techniques.

It would be great if come late August, with Tampa Bay well out in front, Kay and Valentine argue about the Yanks and Bosox battling the Jays for that final wild-card slot (with the Angels/Rangers runnerup having the first wild-card nailed down).

Great for whom? Communists? People worse than Hitler?

It only took 7 posts to get to Hitler.

Patience, patience... in a few weeks, Valentine will have reached synonymity and we won't even have to count any more.

Unfortunately Bobby V looks more like (Groucho) Marx than Hitler.

We still haven't gotten to Steve Garvey.

Well, till now.

Kay: "So Bobby, did Fred Wilpon ever give you investment advice when you managed the Mets?"

Or Joe Posnanski.

Word. They steal Sunday Night Baseball from WFAN but the signal sucks.
