BODYARMOR SuperDrink™ Reels in Baseball Superstar Mike Trout

Trout might get the armor…but Cabrera will get the hardware. (ducks flying raspberry blueberry goji plastibot)

BODYARMOR SuperDrink™ announces Los Angeles outfielder Mike Trout as its newest partner and shareholder. The partnership marks the first-ever national endorsement deal for the 21-year old rookie phenom and gives Trout an equity stake in the company.

Trout has taken the sports world by storm since being called up to the big leagues in April. Trout is very likely to be named the league’s top rookie and is a strong candidate for league MVP, all while leading his team’s playoff push. As a BODYARMOR SuperDrink™ partner, Trout will participate in regional and national events, promotions, product testing and more.

“National media have called Mike the ‘Supernatural’ because the talent and maturity he shows at his age exceeds all natural expectations. It’s fitting that he join BODYARMOR, which created a ‘SuperDrink’ category which has redefined what athletes expect of beverages based on our superior nutrition and hydration,” said Mike Repole, Chairman of BODYARMOR SuperDrink™. “We at BODYARMOR see Mike as an exceptional talent who can grow with our brand, as we both continue to defy expectations.”

“I expect a lot of myself on the field and the same goes for what I put into my body. Nothing else keeps me hydrated like BODYARMOR SuperDrink,” said Trout. “The big league season is a long one and I need the best fuel to perform. BODYARMOR SuperDrink™ packs an amazing amount of nutrition and hydration into one bottle. There is nothing else like it. That’s why I’ve joined BODYARMOR as a shareholder.”

"And remember kids, performance enhancing drugs are bad."

EDIT: Commentary on the mixed messages we send through advertising, not at all meant to be a suggestion that Trout is doing anything he shouldn't be doing.

I'm glad Trout is so dedicated to the brand that he makes sure to add the trademark after BODYARMOR SuperDrink when he speaks.

Trout is going to be one of my fantasy team keepers this off-season, so I hope this stuff has been proven to not cause gigantism.

You can sort of forgive Trout, since he's very young and hasn't made a crudton of money yet, but this is a pretty disgusting part of pro sports. Hock anything you can if they pay you enough. People won't think less of you--in fact, they'll point out how savvy you are.

I'm very much reminded of the opening scene in the Wire, to paraphrase -- this is America man!

There's lots of stuff to be disgusted with, I don't think getting paid to endorse a sports drink is one of them.
