Bospectus: This Week in SABR War

The Tangettes are revolting. Over on The Inside The Book The Book — Playing the Percentages in Baseball Blog (which reminds me of the Official Stephen A. Smith My Blog), you can witness the uprising in comment form against the God-King Tangotiger. For those too squeamish for uncensored carnage, Tango said something about Stephen Strasburg and how he (that being Tango) is always right. And then we get to the comments. Here are highlight selections, in chronological order.
While I check this site regularly, I have a daily fear of the author running into one of the many dumb things I've said. Nerd fights are always entertaining (though I'm more of a dork than a nerd).

Don't flatter yourself. We dorks would never allow a nerd like you to sit at our lunch table!

There you go selling yourself short again. You are both a full-blown dork and a full-blown nerd.

What about us geeks?

I mostly agree w/ Tango in this argument, fwiw.

Also, from the linked thread in the linked bit:

Sal: "Tango will likely never catch the outliers since that method is more conservative (but he’s not really trying to!). And the other method will end up overestimating the true talent of a lot of players with limited data."
I've railed against Oliver projection method under discussion here once or thrice on this site for precisely this reason - I lean toward the former camp).

I'm also a big proponent of using scouting data in projection setting, as he (Tango) mentions here.

Dan's blurb has turned up at PB under SABR endorsements.

It's only fair, really - we'll all rag on mainstream media guys when they say something stupid.
