Boston Herald: ‘Upset’ Varitek moves on without Mirabelli

Wow!...This is the biggest disaster since Ellie “and his .147 average…taught the Red Sox how to win in ‘67” Howard got released after ‘68!

Yesterday, weighing in for the first time, the Sox catcher/captain said he was “upset” by the move.

“I needed a few days, because I was upset,” said Varitek, who took morning batting practice at City of Palms Park but did not accompany the team to Bradenton for its Grapefruit League game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“I’m not going to say I was boo-hoo crying, but there are some levels of trust in this game that you get to, and I had those with him. I’m not saying I won’t have that with Cash. I’ll give him the same opportunities and everything. But I just felt that with this team, at the time, that it was a hard one for me to swallow.

“I lose a very valuable teammate to me, and, I think, to this clubhouse. I’ve been through two world championships with him.”

One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
`Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number, worse than two

It's just no good anymore since Doug went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

One is the loneliest, number one is the loneliest
Number one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest, one is the loneliest
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
It's just no good anymore since Doug went away
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do

Seems like Douggie was pretty much universally well-liked in the clubhouse. Doesn't mean he doesn't suck though.
