Boston Red Sox Top 15 Prospects (2012-13) | FanGraphs Baseball

The Boston Red Sox organization boasts both high-ceiling talent and depth within the system although a number of prospects are coming off of tough seasons. The 2013 season could be a key turning point for the club as those young players look to add a little more shine back to their prospect status.
#1 Xander Bogaerts (SS)

How is a "steady defender" at short listed as a DH? With a .732 OPS?

Boy Ranaudo's stock has fallen. I was a big Bryce Brentz fan but I don't see the power he mentions. I think he might be a high average guy, but profiles as a 4th OF without much pop.

I am really big on Barnes, he's going to be a stud for Boston.

He explains the DH thing in the comments--it pulls the position from the database, which bases position on games played at each position.

Ranaudo's fallen off about as you'd expect for a pitcher who got hurt. What can you do?

Barnes, I'd trade him. He really trailed off, which I guess isn't that surprising for a new pro, but he is a pitching prospect and therefore does not exist.

How about Barnes and a Brentz for Wil Myers, AG1F?

Please don't even joke about this. Dayton Moore could be watching us.

I will throw in Dan Bard.

I think Ranaudo needs to be moved to the pen and promoted as rapidly as reasonable. I don't think he's ever going to be especially healthy so get whatever innings we can out of him.

Darren I think you're unreasonably pessimistic about Barnes. Obviously a s a pitcher he's subject to any number of caveats but I think his season was about what you'd want from a first round pick in his first season. Flashes of dominance with overall success.
