Boston Red Sox’s Dave Dombrowski assesses team’s mediocre start: ‘I don’t think any of us are happy with where we are’ -

The team can still salvage the season.

“I know people have a tendency to point out this or that saying, ‘This is the problem’ or ‘That’s the problem,’” he said. “And really the issue is, there are some players having some very fine seasons, but there are other guys not doing as well. The reality is, as a collective group, we’re not having as good of a year as we’d like.”

For all, the hubbub hey are a game out of the second wild card and 6.5 out of the division lead and its June 14th. There are reasons for concern but while they overachieved last year (no one is a 108 win team) neither are they an 83 win team. I’d expect the Sox to go on a run at some point.

The bullpen is a real concern though. That’s just a complete shitshow out there right now. Like I said in another thread using Josh Smith as closer last night was a cry for help. The 2004 team went 41-40 for half the season and wound up with 98 wins. I don’t expect that many wins but water rises to its level. I still fully expect this team to make the wild card and the division is far from out of reach,

I get your point, but I'm imagining: Help, our bullpen just threw 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball...!

They need to merely look across town to the Boston Garden where the Blues just won the Stanley Cup despite having the worst record in the NHL on January 3, just a few days before the midpoint of the regular season.

I still think Brasier will be a good closer come August....that toe injury set him back a bit this spring.

If you had told pre-season Walt that Vazquez, Moreland, Devers and some guy named Michael Chavis all had strong first halfs, I would have guessed they'd have a record like the Twins.

Speaking of bullpens and Twins, I see the Twins pen has -2.6 WAA, 2nd worst in the AL (Sea -3.6).

Just another chapter in the Twins "WTF is going on" season.

[1] I don't get your point. Do you watch the games? "Using Josh Smith as closer"? He was the 8th pitcher used in that game. The Sox were down 6-4 after 2 and scored a run apiece in the 4th, 5th and 7th innings. Workman pitched the 7th, with the game tied; Barnes pitched the 8th up 1, and Smith finished the game. Barnes pitched against 3-4-5-6 in the Rangers' lineup, with Smith finishing against 7-8-9. Did you know that? The bullpen is doing very well overall, and Cora's done a pretty damned good job following a fairly unorthodox strategy.
