Brad Penny released by Royals after punching wall

The 35-year-old pitcher saw his comeback attempt go awry when he was released by the Royals on Friday, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star. And while performance certainly played a part in Kansas City’s decision — Penny gave up four runs and eight hits in two innings in a spring start against the White Sox on Thursday — apparently Penny’s temper did too.

“One reason Brad Penny was released: He injured his non-throwing hand punching a wall on Thursday, source says.”

— Andy McCullough (@McCulloughStar) March 7, 2014

what’s really impressive is that some of these guys last so long, you’d think more of them would get DFA’d, since all they do is burn their bridges.

Little did he know that the wall was well-connected in the front office.

The Royals finally find someone that can hit, and they let him go.

The Wall was given three years guaranteed.

Kevin Brown still wants a rematch with the Camden Yards dugout wall, I believe.

I didn't have my glasses on and initially read the headline as "...released after pitching well.", and thought "yeah, that's about right."

No way. #8 is amusing, #9 is brilliant.

Penny apparently is still mad over the 7th inning of Game 1 of the 1998 World Series.

I admit I'm confused by #9. What does a Pink Floyd album have to do with this?

In other news, Jays seem to have signed Ervin Santana to 14/1. Of all the FA pitchers he was my least favourite option, but on that contract I'm happy.

#9 wins ONLY IF the wall were a former Brave, signed at the outset of free agency at above market value and given a fourth year mutual option
