Brandon McCarthy, Diamondbacks agree to terms on two-year pact

CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman confirms that the Diamondbacks and right-hander Brandon McCarthy have agreed to terms. Heyman also reports that a two-year contract is in place.

In 2013 McCarthy will be coming back from a scary skully fracture—one that endangered his life, and he also has a history of shoulder problems. However, he’s a near-ace when not battling injuries: a 3.29 ERA across two seasons in Oakland. At age 29, McCarthy should be quite a nifty addition, so long as he avoids the disabled list.

Thanks to Chet.

Almost impossible for it to be a bad contract at two years.

LOVE BRANDON MCCARTHY

Edit: Nick Piecoro:
OK, it's two years and $15.5M for McCarthy.
Steal.

This makes my head hurt as bad as a skully fracture!

Agreed, he was fun to watch, and fun to have on the A's. Ill miss him... so does he follow danny haren and go to the angles next...

I'll miss him and Amanda too. She's the first A's wife since Jamie Kotsay I actually paid any attention to. And with her it was more about tweeting excellence than....er....well you know.

What if he didn't actually sign a contract for millions and it was really just a coma dream?

That seems really cheap. Less than $8M a year?

I'll miss him in Oakland too. But he's only hit the 170 IP mark once in his career, so there are real durability issues with him. Granted, he was probably on his way to making that last year, but then got hit. He's been very good when healthy the last couple of years, and there's no reason to think he can't keep that up in AZ.

This could end up being highway robbery by the D-Backs. If the Nats hadn't just signed Dan Haren I'd honestly be a bit pissed off, wondering why we couldn't have landed this deal.

Bummer. Wish he could have stayed.

In Billy We Trust and all, but it's disappointing to lose McCarthy and keep Colon. This better mean they're re-signing Drew.
