Braun Homers, Brewers Ride It To 2-1 Cactus League Opener Victory

McStooley from the bar just told me “That Brewer win shouldn’t count!” #Asterisqué

We’re still over a month away from Opening Day, but Ryan Braun may be ready. He homered to deep right in his first at bat today to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead in their Cactus League opener, then drew a walk in his second plate appearance before exiting the game. Braun’s homer was one of just three Brewer hits today, but they also drew six walks in the early innings. Carlos Gomez had two of them and scored the Brewers’ second run on Jean Segura’s RBI groundout.

Mike Fiers got the start for the Brewers today and pitched a pair of scoreless innings, working out of a bases loaded jam in the first before retiring the side in order in the second. He struck out two and walked two. John Axford followed him to the mound and pitched a perfect third. Jim Henderson (one inning), Donovan Hand (two innings), Rob Wooten (.1 innings), Michael Olmsted (one inning) and Jesus Sanchez (one inning for the save) also pitched scoreless outings today, while Santo Manzanillo allowed a run on two hits and couldn’t finish the seventh.

From espn.com:

"There was nothing I didn't like about it," Braun said. "It was a home run. Homers are cool. I love home runs."

I really hope Brauny uses the exact same quote after every homer he hits this year.

Maybe he'll use that quote when he's explaining why he's linked to the Bosch clinic too :)

He hit the homer off Jesse Chavez. For that, it should automatically come with an asterisk, one that stands for *Chavez was pitching; what else did you expect?

"There was nothing I didn't dig about the long ball," Braun said. "It was the long ball. The long ball is cool. I dig the long ball."
