Braves extend Chris Johnson

3 years, $23.5 M with option

OK, it’s not a lot of money so it doesn’t really matter but ... Chris Johnson?  Depends what you believe about his defense I suppose but he seems more like the “be happy you got the good bit, now say goodbye” type.

This will bring his career earnings to about $32 M.  Possibly I chose the wrong profession.

Well, you know, plenty of people would jump at the chance to extend their Johnson.

The size of said Johnson matters. I'd take a Randy Johnson any day.

I should have known that the first post would take the joke I wanted to make.

I'm sure his leadership skills will come in handy as the Braves' hall monitor.

Did someone say handy?

Their options are thin and it's hard to find quality at that position in the open market.

Sure, but are we at all convinced that they got any quality with this extension? I guess the price isn't bad at all if he's the same guy he was last year, but that seems like an unlikely proposition to me. ZIPS and Steamer both think he's going to be an ~1 win player this year, he's been quite bad so far, and the contract is for when he's 30+. That doesn't seem like a great way to spend money.
