Braves Journal: Padres 3, Braves 0

I’m not posting this because of the game, or the recap.  I’m posting it because of this sad news:

Mac is being moved to hospice. As I said during the game thread, he’s still with us, but there may be no time left. Of course, there are no certainties in medicine, but he may not have much time left.

Here’s hoping there’s another miracle for Mac Thomason, but it doesn’t sound good.

Mac founded and has been running Braves Journal since the late 1990s. He's one of the originals. He's 42 and dying of cancer and it sucks, especially if you've been yabbering about baseball over the internet with him for 15 ####### years. Or if you're him.

This sucks, sucks, sucks. Mac's a pioneer in this little corner and far, far too young for this bullshit.

My thoughts are with him, and I hope the rest of the baseball blogging community feels likewise.

The BravesJournal crowd is trying to get him some call-out love on a Braves telecast, so if you're friends with Joe Simpson or Don Sutton or anyone involved in Braves broadcasts, any help would be appreciated. Hell, Twitterbomb them if you have to. Seems like a little thing but it would mean a lot to the guy.

Godfuckingdammit to hell. Cancer at 42 is a crime against nature.

This is such sad news. My thoughts are with him and those close to him.

Awful news. Been reading his blog for YEARS now. I've feared this day given stories of his health, but sending all good vibes and hopes.

When I started up Birds in the Belfry to cover the Orioles in 2001 after five years of writing for the Orioles Hangout, Mac was very encouraging, and I read him every day for years. I was aware of his situation, as I am a survivor (colon cancer...be sure to get your checkups, fellahs!)I offered as much advice as I could over the years. We drifted apart once I halted the Belfry three years ago (couldn't write about the losing and dysfunction any more), but I still kept a distant tab and dropped an occasional line. I'm sorry it's come to this. My prayers are with him and his friends and family.

I hope the Braves can do something. They sure as s##t should.

Jim Powell just gave him an in-game shout out on Braves Radio.

Man, that's terrible. My thoughts are with him, and I'm glad he's getting some love from the Braves radio folks.

Wow that sucks ass. I posted over there for years and years before I gave up on the Braves. Mac is about as fair and patient guy as you will find on the internet. Good writer with a sharp sense of humor.

42...wow. I'm 37, I can't imagine how it could all be over at 42. So unfair.
