Braves Notebook: Giles all smiles after his first call-up

The Braves called up their best offensive prospect to compensate for the injury of Kurt Abbott and Quilvio Veras’ constant aches and pains.  Giles is a great prospect kind of a slower, white Joe Morgan…

He was number 3 on BA’s top 10 Braves Prospects
...here is his collection of year old links and stats at Iowa Farm Report
...and his current year stats

...His brother is one of my favourite players, and it looks like Marcus should be too.

Further, a longtime poster in the Braves newsgroup who follows their minors very closely reported that Giles' swing looks very, very different from how it looked when he saw him before at Greenville and Macon.

This spring the free-swinging Travis Wilson got all the press and right up until the last day of camp was a possibility to make the roster. Giles, having seen how his brother got jerked around and his walks unappreciated until he finally won a full-time job, may have adopted a more pragmatic attitude and might be trying to swing in the way the Braves seem to want. Which would suck, if it kills his actual talent.
