Braves place Garret Anderson on disabled list

Those 627 hits are looking tougher every day.

The Braves placed left fielder Garret Anderson on the 15-day disabled list Friday and recalled outfielder Brandon Jones from Class AAA Gwinnett.

...The former Los Angeles Angels standout signed as a free agent during the second week of spring training, and missed much of the Grapefruit League schedule after pulling his right calf muscle.

He missed four regular-season starts after tweaking the calf April 8 before a game in Philadelphia.

This is not what the Braves had in mind when they signed Anderson and penciled him in as their primary left fielder. Instead, Matt Diaz has gotten the majority of the playing time.

Garret Anderson is toast.

In the few games he's played he's shown very poor range and then he drops the few balls he does get to.

He looks like he's just going through the motions just to collect one more paycheck...

He looked like complete toast for the first halves of 2007-2008. In the second halves, he wasn't just good, he kicked some serious ass, to the tune of 319/361/514 and 105 RBI in 128 games.

But no, I'm not willing to take a chance on that happening a gain. You can keep him.

Hmmm, well maybe it's just that it takes him 80 or so games of "spring training" to get into playing shape these days...

Being a year older, though, that number may be closer to 100 games now.

Anderson certainly looks like crispy, crispy toast so far. Is that a function of the leg injury? Does the fact that he can't run make him worse than Ryan Klesko in LF, or is it just an excuse for a general deterioration of skills? Oh chicken, where did you get that egg?! Regardless, the Braves have him under contract. He'll either come back in some semblance of his 07-08 self, or he won't. Brando Jones has one more chance to take his spot in the majors...

I think Brandon Jones can probably hit at least adequately, but he has his own "issues" in the field...

But Boras said that Garrett Anderson can start for 4 more years, and get 3000 hits!

Well...
If Boras said it, then it must be true, right?
