Braves re-sign infielder Jack Wilson

As an old pequod sod in the bar used to say to anybody named Jack…“#### you, Jack, I’m all right!!”

The Atlanta Braves have re-signed veteran infielder Jack Wilson to a one-year deal, the team’s website reports.

Wilson, 34, hit .243 with no homers, 11 RBIs in part-time duty with the Braves and Seattle Mariners in 2011. He was dealt to Atlanta on Aug. 31.

His biggest impact this season might be as a mentor/insurance policy.

Barring another acquisition, the Braves will start rookie Tyler Pastornicky at shortstop on opening day. The 22-year-old hit .314 with seven homers, 45 RBIs and 27 stolen bases between the Class AA and Class AAA levels in 2011, but he never has played in the majors.

Adam Everett retired today. What's the difference between these two?

Why ask a question that you just answered in your previous sentence?

Two years of age, one All-Star game, and eleven points of career OPS+?

There's also the fact that Adam Everett couldn't find a gig playing backup to a 12 year old kid.

I'm sure Adam Everett was a great glove man who had a good career. When you're trying to think of which of the interchangeable white middle infielders to sign, guys who look like ugly chipmunks stick out a lot more than guys who don't. I couldn't pick Adam Everett out of a police lineup.

The one thing I mostly remember about Adam Everett is that after Troy Tulowitzki's rookie season, some smart guy around here playing around with stats argued that Tulo was really about the same player as Everett.

Jack Wilson would make a perfectly fine looking chipmunk.

He'll play too much, but I guess you need a plan b when the kid flops.

In AG's defense, the first thought I had when I read that the Braves re-signed Jack Wilson was "wait, I thought he retired and went to the Indians."

It is quite possible I've been confusing Adam Everett and Jack Wilson for years.

Adam Everett is the one that looks like that twerpy actor from The New Guy (DJ Qualls?).

Jack Wilson led the NL in triples one season.

The main difference is Everett just can't stay healthy (only 150 PA combined the last 2 years) and the injuries seem to have sapped his defensive abilities. Fragile, no-hit, average or worse defense is not an attractive combo. Still mildly surprised Colletti didn't bring in at least one of these guys to join his 2006 All-Stars.

Jack Wilson is the one who looks like my high school friend Mike Sands. And he was the one who was on the Pirates for 8 1/2 years.

Wilson wasn't exactly the model of health in Seattle either.
