Braves to sign Miguel Batista

A signing where real facts and evidences face faith.

The Braves have agreed to sign Miguel Batista, David Lennon of Newsday reports (on Twitter). The Mets released the 41-year-old right-hander yesterday after designating him for assignment.

Batista posted a 4.82 ERA with 6.6 K/9 and 6.0 BB/9 in 46 2/3 innings for the Mets this year, including five starts.

As if Braves fans weren't already disgusted enough with Ryan Dempster.

So he throws some innings in Gwinnett, and if the arms of Ben Sheets and Tim Hudson fall off; and Tehran, Minor and Delgado cannot get people out, you bring him up and hope you can win, giving up 5 runs a game. I am sure he is "Plan D".

This is great news, I didn't realize the Mets released him.

This will be his 11th team if he plays in the majors. And by 11th I mean 12th because he played for the Expos and then 10 years later he played for the Nationals.

First they sign Carrasco, now him. Soft hearted Sandy can release Torres, Bay, Ramirez and Rauch and know the Braves will give them a job.

And to think the Braves let ¡Livan! go.

My current favorite bit of trivia is that Miguel Batista was on the last Pirates teamthat made the playoffs. Coincidentally, the Braves close the regular season against Pittsburgh in a series that might decide a playoff berth.

I've always though of him as a starter, but looking at his career, Batista has never had a season where he didn't make at least one relief appearance. Interesting. I wonder how many other pitchers with almost 250 career starts can say the same.
