Braves win second straight 1-0 game over Rockies

Tim Hudson pitched seven shutout innings Thursday, like Mike Minor had the night before, and the Braves used more solid bullpen work to move 3 ½ games ahead of the Cardinals in the NL wild card and five up on the Pirates and Dodgers.

In this four game series, the Braves didn’t have a single RBI after the third inning of the first game. They took three out of four.

It's been pointed out that the Rockies have lost back-to-back games despite giving up 0 earned runs. First time this has happened in over 20 years.

Well, despite these setbacks, the Rockies are still 15-9 in their last 24 games. And in that time they've only given up 9 runs in a game twice!

And their August ERA was only 4.71! (their June ERA was 5.88) And their September ERA is only 3.14! If they can keep this up they might actually end up with better pitching statistics than the Astros.

However, it looks like they will have pitchers with over 100 innings pitched, as their four-man rotation is currently at 86.1, 84.2, 76.2, and 42.1. And all four of them have an ERA under 6!

The unearned run scored today when pitcher Jhoulys Chacin missed a throw back from the catcher.

The play in question.

It really didn't seem like a great decision to go - the ball didn't get THAT far away from Chacin, Francisco was standing right on third base and took a second to realize what happened, and he's not exactly a speedy guy in the first place. Oh, and there were runners on second and third with nobody out.

Then again, maybe Francisco thought that with the Braves 0 for their last <some large number> with RISP, that he should take the chance. And, maybe due to sheer surprise, Chacin made a horrible throw. But it looks like even with an on-target throw, Francisco still gets in there. Strange play.

so is anybody willing to say that the Colorado pitching experiment as currently being conducted is working?
