1. The District Attorney Posted: August 06, 2007 at 02:17 AM (#2473074)He has been lousy against lefties this season, and has often given up leads that he's come in to protect. He's done okay as a long man when the team was getting blown out early this season, but overall he hasn't done the job.
agreed, but he still had some use (like you said, he was okay as a long man or mop-up reliever). There were a couple of better candidates to DFA or send to AAA (Henn and Villone come to mind). I don't get this move, although I look forward to seeing Joba the Hutt.
Except Joe continually brought him in as a loogy. Villone is a better option for a long man and Henn is already in AAA. Space is needed for Joba and Giambi. Cairo should be the next to go.
Try the bullpen catcher or the groundskeeper. One of them has to be a lefty.
Ignore the ERA.
Either that, or multiply it by a factor of about three if you want to get a better idea of his effectiveness.
(b) The Yankees did place Myers on waivers, nobody picked him up and now the Yankees are really going to release him.
I tend to think (a) is the most likely answer, since at least one MLB team surely would be willing to claim a LOOGY for $400K..... (yes, someone could be betting that Myers ends up released and proceeds to sign him for minimum wage with the Yanks paying the difference, but it's not THAT big a difference in money if a team thought Myers was good for them).
Only if they offered him arbitration, which might be just a tad risky, don't you think?
What FA type would he be? Is there a C level? D?
Didn't they change that in the new CBA?
Players are designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. If the Yankees placed Myers on waivers, he'd be on the roster until he cleared waivers. And then they'd need to release someone else when they bring Giambi off of the 60-day DL on Tuesday.
Looking at what's out there and the history of A and B free agent relievers (think Gagne with 17 IPs over two years), I bet he would be worth picks. But the valid point was brought up that it probably is not worth offering him arbitration for fear he might accept it. I wonder how Torre feels about this, first Proctor now Myers. Cashman is forcing his hand.
not if we can believe baseball america
Not that I think a situational lefty is worth a roster spot in the first place.
Except Gagne had proven talent. Mike Myers at his best is not 1/3 of Gagne.

That's very true, and a definite downside to offering arb. I'm just asking whether even if he was offered and declined, whether he would be worth picks.
Well, while we all know that is true, that is not how the 'rankings' are supposed to be determined. It is supposed to be straight statistically driven. I would imagine that IP is a stat considered. Myers whip is crap, but there are many worse relievers out there.
Apparently, they cut you beaucoup slack if you're on the DL.
Veteran presence! Guaranteed daily use by Torre!
This way he can be the Cardinals' #3 starter next week.
DFAing Myers takes him off the 40, so they had the open spot.
So a couple of spots will need to be shuffled.
THE Jim Brower? No ####?
(EDIT) I was thinking of Bob Brower, who I saw hit an inside-the-park grand slam for the Rangers in Kaufmann in the late 80s.
I heard somewhere that he hit an inside-the-park grand slam for the Rangers once.
Those who edit posts to say something else are dicks.
1) Yes, dig on you, no offense intended.
2) I do believe this.
And that team is the Phillies. Not that JC Romero isn't awesome, but we might want another lefty around with Matt Smith and Fat Mike Zagurski exiled for ineffectiveness.
Not sure why Model Dictator Fabio Castro is still in Ottawa.
Once you check out Steamtown, the Everhart Museum and the site of the famous banana truck accident, there isn't much else to do. They might as well just send him to Reading and he can hang out at the Stoudt's Brewery.
