Brewers Acquire Jonathan Broxton

I always thought Broxton was pretty Turnbow-y. But he does lead the Reds in games pitched and has a 1.86 ERA, so maybe I’m wrong. (3.52 FIP)

The Reds have traded right-hander Jonathan Broxton to the Brewers, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link).

Updates: It's for two players to be named later, and:
[Broxton is] owed about $1.19MM of his $7MM salary this season before earning $9MM in 2015. His contract also contained a $9MM club option for 2016, which comes with a $1MM buyout. However, Broxton’s contract has a clause that causes that club option to become a mutual option with a $2MM buyout if he is traded, meaning he is now guaranteed $12.19MM through the end of the 2015 campaign and can reach free agency sooner even with a strong performance next year.

We'll see how much money the Reds are able to save in this deal. Broxton has performed well, but, giving a non-elite reliever 3 years and 20 million was not the best use of resources.

Trading for a guy like this when you end up on the hook for another $12.2 million for a year and a month of service is a little bit like how I;d feel about a hitter busting it down the line on a routine grounder to second base, and then pulling his hamstring on the play.

I appreciate the desire to do everything you can to win, but don't kill yourself in the process, OK?

Broxton also has pitched poorly of late and blown 6 leads this season.

the brewers have eyes wide open on frankie. it's believed that prior to this acquisition the closers in waiting were jim hendereson, jeffress, will smith and kyle thornburg

I thought Michael Blazek was still on the 40-man? He can blow leads for a lot cheaper, and he can start too.
