Brewers’ Gallardo robbed at gunpoint

Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo and one of the team’s clubhouse attendants were robbed at gunpoint overnight on Milwaukee’s south side, team officials confirmed Friday.

Gallardo was not injured, said Michael Vassallo, the team’s director of media relations.

WTMJ-AM (620), which first reported the robbery, reported that the clubhouse attendant, Alex Sanchez, was struck in the head with the butt of a handgun. A Milwaukee police spokeswoman confirmed that one of the robbery victims was struck with a gun, causing a bump on his head.

Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes said Sanchez was not in the hospital and that both he and Gallardo are “doing fine.”

“Both Yovani and Alex have confirmed that it happened, but they don’t care to talk about any further details,” Barnes said. “Our most important thing is that they’re doing OK, and other than that, they don’t care to discuss it.”

Barnes and Vassallo both said they did not know the exact location or time of the robbery, except that it occurred on Milwaukee’s south side.

Thanks to JL.

some are saying this happened in or near a supermarket parking lot. Others are saying they were leaving a strip club. Either way, at that hour, not much positive can happen.

I've never been mugged. Growing up in North Dakota has its advantages.

Maybe he was mugged for his 2008 NL Wild Card Ring?

I'm not so sure about this. I'm pretty sure that all the best events in my life have happened at, say, 11 PM or later. Some of them have definitely happened at 3 in the morning.

Yeah I second AS here. I don't know what rock you've been living under mrams, but if you can't have fun late at night then you've probably never had much fun at all. Or you never went to college. Or you forgot you ever turned 21 (or 18, or whatever. I don't know how old you are...)

Either that or you actually ENJOY crunching numbers in your mother's basement :)

All true, let me rephrase, if bad things happen to you they often occur after 2 am.

Wow. One of my friends from college is cousins with Gallardo. Glad he's OK.

I'd imagine being out after 2am is risky, and anything I'd want to go to is closed/closing. The most fun I've had that late was indoors (not including anything sexual).

Where was Ambiorix Burgos when this happened?

Driving at 2 AM is AWESOME. Way better than driving at any point in the day.

Except that pretty much every single car on the road is either a drunk driver or a cop.

Dodging drunk drivers while speeding away from the cops isn't fun?

You prefer your sex alfresco?

No I just think sex is one of the most obvious fun things to do indoors. I should worded it differently but it was after 2am when I wrote it. You see HIMYM was right nothing good happens after 2 am.
