Brian Cashman broke his ankle sky-diving for charity

February 23, 1967: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agenttttttttttttt!

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman went sky-diving today to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. The first jump went well, but then Cashman decided to go for a second jump and …

John Harper of the New York Daily News, who tagged along with Cashman, reports that the GM is headed to the hospital with what everyone thinks is a broken ankle.

Got to say, I love how Cashman does crazy stuff like this for charities.

As long as he wasn't doing something inherently dangerous like washing his truck...

I know Cashman is being frugal these days, but couldn't he afford a parachute.

Cashman should have waited until after the dive to smoke the objective pipe.

I dated a girl who broke her ankle skydiving. Apparently it's not that hard to do - one little tweak on the landing, and you're usually coming in with enough force that you can break it.

I doubt that Cashman ends up with a bright pink cast. Do they make MLB-branded cast wraps? Wouldn't surprise me.

Double post, off the wall in center.

On Saturday I jumped off the 108th floor of the Stratosphere in Vegas. See this link for a description of the "ride" they offer. Reached a top speed of 40 mph. It was of course a controlled jump -- not with a bungee cord but with lines. Cashman should have gone with this option. It's less crazy, but safer, and still crazy to step off the ledge into thin air from the 108th floor.

Or jumping on a trampoline.

If Cashman were Jimmy Cagney he'd buy the airplane and then kill it.

Does this void the contracts of all the players he's signed?

The skyjump was Hank's idea.

Now we're gonna have to raise money for the Wounded GMs Project!

"February 23, 1967: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agenttttttttttttt!"

For those that messaged me...it was Cesar Geronimo.

In fact, Hank packed the parachute. Hmm...

I literally almost killed myself the one and only time that I sky-dove. While I didn't officially break my ankle, it was not in good shape (it hurt!) for at least 3-4 months after. And I was 21 at the time.

That looks like John C. Reilly in the other yellow jumpsuit.

Shake and bake!

Or jumping on a trampoline.

Or playing in the WBC.

This almost makes me feel bad for fast-forwarding past Cashman and the Red Sox GM talking about this during a ST game. Almost.

Funnily enough, I was watching "Walk Hard" on cable just now. What a great movie. (It's a damn shame Johnny Cash didn't live long enough to record "Guilty As Charged".)
