Brian Dozier agrees to deal with Washington Nationals according to sources

On a related note, can Jeff Passan help ESPN regain some page views?

Free-agent second baseman Brian Dozier has reached an agreement with the Washington Nationals on a one-year, $9 million deal, league sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Bummer dude. I wouldn't have hated the Red Sox landing Dozier.

I hope he bounces back. He’s my favorite player, non-MooseTacos division.

Steamer is strangely pessimistic (103 wRC+) and ZiPS isn't out yet.

I think I'd take the over, even though he is a 32 y.o. 2B. But even their 2.5 WAR projection is good value for $9M.

$9M/1? Wow, what a steal for the Nats.

This seems insanely low...what happened to him in 2018? BB and K rate were incredibly consistent from 2013 on (bb rate ticked up to 11.1 the last couple of years; k rate has basically stayed at 20%). Everything else looks like it stayed pretty constant except his ISO and BABIP sort of cratered, which kind suggests he'll bounce back nicely. I wish the Mets had a spot for him at this price.

He was playing hurt all year.

"according to sources" is just a weasel phrase for reporters (and headline writers). All the factual content it adds is "I didn't just make this up". Which, unless you work for Der Spiegel, is expected. The real function of it is to allow the writer to say "I'm not saying it's true", but if you're not saying it's true, what's the point in reporting it?*

*Besides advertising dollars I mean.

Following up on 6 Dozier is dead pull for power and his knee was bad which totally messed up his ability to generate leverage. He should have disabled himself for several weeks instead of playing through it. And where was Molitor?

And Jed Lowrie's a Met.

I'd prefer Dozier with Lowrie's contract.

Expect Dozier to get considerable playing time in 2019. Howie Kendrick is still a health question mark while Wilmer Difo is cromulent in the field, but a lousy hitter.

I'd expect him to be the everyday 2B. Wouldn't you?
