Brian McNamee lawyer: Roger Clemens can never come clean ala Mark McGwire

When Mark McGwire came in from the cold Monday, admitting that he had been a steroid user in the 1990s, he opened the door to a serious question about another iconic player linked to performance-enhancing drugs: Roger Clemens.

Could Clemens ever make the same kind of admission that McGwire made when he finally acknowledged steroid use throughout his long, storied career?

“Clemens doesn’t have that option,” said Earl Ward, one of the lawyers representing Clemens’ former trainer and chief accuser, Brian McNamee. “It would be the final nail in the coffin for him.”

Could someone tell me how McNamee is paying for his lawyers? I don't see this as a typical pro bono case and that the public good being advanced by McNamee's battle with Clemens.

bob,

i believe that the NY daily news is paying mcnamee's lawyers

they must have run up legal bills in the milions by now i would guess

because there is like NO way that mcnamee has any sort of money to pay them all off. or can get hold of it unless he rob a bank

If they are, they're hiding the story.

"Neither Ward nor Emery would disclose whether they are working for McNamee pro bono, but that is believed to be the case."

I don't think someone who tried to drug and rape a girl in Florida and is admitting possession and distrubiton of illegal drugs should take legal precedence over death penalty, immigration, abused women and all of the other traditionally approved methods of doing the mandated pro bono hours per state.

Even if it doesn't count as part of their mandated pro bono hours, they still get a clear and obvious benefit from representing him for free. Namely, they have a pretext to get their name in the paper on a weekly basis.

Yes, that will really make the case against Clemens. Really this time. REALLY!

What legal work is McNamee really doing? At this point, doesn't his legal representation mostly consist of giving quotes to the news media?
