Brian Wilson agrees with Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached a one-year, $10 million agreement to bring back free-agent reliever Brian Wilson, sources told ESPN’s Jim Bowden.

Brian Wilson and his trademark beard will be staying in Los Angeles as the reliever agreed to a one-year deal with the Dodgers, a source said. Wilson can earn an additional $700,000 in performance incentives, and the deal includes a player option worth between $9 million and $10 million based on performance, according to sources.

It’s a lot of money but he was lights out last year and a star closer before Tommy John surgery so I’m ok with this.

Um, what?

32 year old Brian Wilson - who has thrown 15 innings in the last two years, and has two good years in his entire career - is worth $10 million dollars?

If any MLB GMs are wondering, I would definitely take a contract for a couple million. Sure I haven't pitched since I was 16, but I'm sure I could get it over the plate. I'd even be willing to grow an ugly beard.

Same here. If he breaks down, the Dodgers can afford to eat the money. If he's lights-out, then you've got a hell of a setup/closer combo.

Will Brian be bringing The Machine with him?

Brian Wilson was worth $10 million - as much as any reliever is ever worth $10 million - in 2010. Not since then. Tough to believe anyone else would have been near this offer. And the player option makes it very likely to be a 2 year deal, right?

[4] I think he needs a certain number of innings to get the player option since it says "based on performance," though that might just be the difference as to whether it's a $9m or $10m option; it's poorly worded.

After reading a few articles, it sounds like it's just a normal player option. Really they should be calling this a two-year deal with an opt-out. I hereby predict that Wilson will exercise the second year.

What would you normally expect from a pitcher that you are giving $10 million? If he is not pitching well for the $10, Mattingly can remind him of the extra $700,000 if he hits some performance incentives. Madness...

Not sure of his source, but Cots has this:

1 year/$10M (2014), plus 2015 player option

re-signed by LA Dodgers as a free agent 12/5/13
14:$10M, 15:$8.5M player option
player option may increase to $10M based on appearances in 2014
additional $0.7M in annual performance bonuses based on games finished
