Bridge on Interstate 70 top be named “Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge”

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – President Barack Obama has signed legislation officially naming the new I-70 bridge over the Mississippi River the “Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.”

The bridge connects St. Louis and the Metro East

The name is a compromise between Missouri lawmakers, who wanted to honor the late Cardinals’ great Stan Musial, and Illinois lawmakers, who wanted to name the bridge in honor of military veterans.

At least Stan Musial was actually a veteran. It would seem odd (to me) if they were to name a bridge in honor of veterans whilst also naming it in honor of a baseball legend who didn't even serve.

"Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge"

How long before significant numbers of [not too bright] people believe Musial was Stan's middle name.

Luckily the bridge is in Missouri, and not New York...

Edit: Also Illinois, which makes more sense. Folks from Illinois will believe anything.

Now they just need to change Mark McGwire Highway to anything else.

At least they aren't calling it the "Highway of Heroes".

How many veterans of Stan Musial are still alive? Do they still suffer post-Stan syndrome?

Hey, I was just on this last week. Although I only knew that because my GPS kept telling me to "Stay on 401/Highway of Heroes". What the heck is the story behind that?

Ted Williams has a tunnel named after him. And, unlike Musial, he was able to receive the honor as a living person; nice timing Missouri and Illinois!

If they hadn't waited until he died, they would have had to call it the Stan Musial Veterans Bridge, which would have just sounded silly.

"highway of heroes" marks the route thatthe bodies of fallen soldiers often take from cfb Trenton to the forensic lab in Toronto.

I imagine a bridge shaped like Musial's hunchbacked batting stance.

I imagine a giant harmonica.

Rename the uninspiredly named Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, MI. the Denny McLain Bridge. (This is where Denny lost his way-
McLain was trying to get to the Cracker Barrel, but got tangled in construction and accidentally wound up on the bridge to Canada
and arrested).

I can't think of a higher honor than having your name on the bridge that takes you to East Saint Louis.

They should name the bridge AWAY from East Saint Louis for Stan Musial, and the bridge TOWARDS East Saint Louis after Darrell Porter.
