Jeff put together a database of injuries from 2002 through 2008 and went all Studes on us with his graphs, like this one:

Dusty Baker seems to be a good fit for the Reds. Although I wonder how much Griffey skews those results.

Not that much. The position player segment is large, but not excessively so. In fact, from Cinn down to SF in the middle all look pretty comparable.

Cinn was really way out in front on the pitching side (insert easy Baker joke here). Does 2002 catch the end of Bowden's constant shuffling in and out of pitching reclamation projects? If so, that might be a big part of that.

Wow, the Cubs are surprisingly low on all lists.

The first thing that catches my eye is magnitude of the differences between teams. The worse team has literally 5 times the DL time as the best teams. That is a huge advantage and thus worth spending a ton of money and effort to try and get your organization down toward the good end.

The one slight issue I have with this, is that teams might not use similar criteria to send players to the DL. A's fans often complain / joke that many A's players are perpetually listed as "day to day".

rfloh, it looks like the suffers from the opposite problem that the recent NFL report on injuries suffered from. Football Outsiders has a piece on it. The Red Sox use the DL quite a bit more than some teams would. I'd also estimate non-DL games missed.

What is going on with the Astros? Is it team policy to use the DL as little as possible?
