Calcaterra: The Mets St. Patrick’s Day caps are … horrifying

Can’t sleep, Irish Mr. Met will eat me . . .  can’t sleep, Irish Mr. Met will eat me . . .

I’m too afraid to ask what Mrs. Met is wearing….

The Mets have celebrated Irish heritage for some time. I can recall from Shea days the green Mets caps giveaways (merely the traditional blue and orange "NY" cap turned green and orange), followed by a post-game Black 47 concert.

But these...no. Some wag on Twitter mentioned Jewish heritage -- don't give the promotions department ideas. Mr. Met in a yarmulke?

Horrifying, no. Goofy, yes.

Orange AND Green?

Pick a side, dammit.

No, sorry, you are wrong. They are horrifying. I imagine small children scurrying under tables at the site of the logo.
UGLIEST.HAT.EVER.

Comedy isn't pretty and neither is...

I would play serious coin to see Shane MacGowan wear that hat.

If there's any orange, any orange at all...

Yep. Hopefully he'd been in his usual state of complete inebriation, slurry "Dirty old town" so badly you can't make out the lyrics then as a climax he spews all over the hat.

Of course then the logo will be much improved.

I remember the 80's well....

No, sir, this is horrifying.

Along with pretty much every logo conceived in the 1990s. Case in point.

Unlike Shane MacGowan, who remembers little.

How can you not love the Lubbock Cotton Kings' lovable mascot, Audrey II?

The Irish national team cap picture opened first and I didn't see anything wrong with it. Then BAM- orange bearded baseball.

As I shed a tear for the Arkansas GlacierCats. Who were actually one of two minor league teams in Little Rock for awhile there, though I can't recall if they were the one that played in the arena (actually directly across the river in North LR) or the one that played in Barton Coliseum. The former, I think, first wanted to be called the Razorblades, but somehow the Razorbacks put a stop to that ... which doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, "razorblade" being a pretty generic word.

(Google tells me they went with RiverBlades instead.)

My favorite part is that he's missing a tooth.
