Canadian Fakin’ - Goins uses hidden ball trick to get Frazier

Ryan Goins is known for being a magician with the glove, but in Friday night’s 8-1 win over the Yanks at Rogers Centre, he unveiled his sneakiest move yet: The hidden ball trick.

Goins then threw even more salt into the wound by hitting a grand slam a few innings later.

I will pull a Ray here and say that while I love that baseball had the hidden ball trick, and Frazier should just call time like a non idiot, I am thoroughly unimpressed with tagging players basically shuffling their feet.

So meh to Goins.

To me that’s on Frazier. There is no reason to step off the base at all. He was just ####### stupid.

To me it's on the 3b coach who's watching the entire time and had plenty of time to yell over to Frazier. That's his job.

Agreed. The third base coach saw what was going on. He needs to be yelling his head off at Frazier to stay on the base.

Yeah, I'd share blame there. Frazier had no reason to leave the bag, he took it for granted that the ball was back to the pitcher. And there was a few seconds between the fake return and the tag, so they both ###### up.

Which event for Sept. 22 did you predict at the beginning of the year?
1. Ryan Goins would hit a GS and pull off the hidden ball trick.
2. Scooter Gennett would hit his FOURTH GS of the year.

From the video it looked like the third base coach was pointing and yelling. Maybe not going crazy because he figured Frazier wouldn’t be dumb enough to get off the base.

Edmundo.- According to the Red Sox broadcast today Gennett is the second player ever, with Gehrig, to have a four homer game AND a season with four grand slams. Gehrig did his in separate seasons so Scooter Gennett is the first player ever to accomplish those two things in the same season.

Scooter ####### Gennett.

Goins has actually hit two grand slams this year.

For a replacement level career back-up glove man he's having a hell of a clutch season.

RISP: 333/.373/.552
Bases Loaded: .714/.688/1.214
Runner on 3rd/2out: .462/.517/.769

Of course, he's not a good hitter, so his runners on/bases empty numbers are miles apart

Runners On: .287/.328/.456
Bases Empty: .181/.239/.252

I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. It's been a full season of virtually ONLY ever getting hits in RBI situations.

Really? The view I saw was from behind him, and I didn't see him point.

I mean he wasn't going crazy or anything but I think because he assumed that the major league baseball player with nearly 1000 career games would be smart enough not to just step off the base completely. If you look at about 13/14 second point the ball comes in and immediately the 3B coach is pointing. I mean at some point the player has to know not to be a moron. It's like saying the third base coach when he waves a runner around third should be pointing to home plate to make sure the runner goes the right direction. If you don't know where the ball is, stay on the base moron.

Yeah, maybe, but pointing isn't enough. Coaches yell "BACK" when a runner is in danger. He didn't look like he yelled, and Frazier isn't expected to be looking at the coach in that situation. He has to have his ears on, though.

Watching Frazier's reaction, he argued, briefly, that he didn't come off the bag, but oh yes he did.
