Caple: A Bud Selig statue is a bad move

image

But an owner? The suit who controls ticket and beer prices? The filthy-rich man who demands that taxpayers help pay for new stadiums to make him even richer? The meddlesome guy who fails to re-sign a beloved star and then gives a boatload of cash to a free agent so fat he uses real donuts on his bat in the on-deck circle? Giving him a statue is just a bad idea. It’s like putting up a statue of a politician. You’re guaranteed to tick off at least half the people.

For several years I've been claiming, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, that Bolshevik Bud was planning to use his Yankee tax slush fund money to erect heroic statues of himself throughout the Dominican Republic. I see this as the first step in testing out appropriate poses and artistic interpretations of his shriveled visage.

Will we be seeing Arm-Fall-Off Boy panels for a Dave Dravecky story at some point?

Think of all the happy pigeons with a new place to ####.

"My power was too static and would accomplish nothing positive"

would be sweet on the statuette.

Only half?

Any statue should be made of transparent materials.

Why is an article that was orignally posted Feburay, getting attention now. Slow news day?

The "How did you acquire this weird ability" part made me laugh.

Is this more or less aggrandizing than Roland Burris' crypt?

That "Next Second" caption might be the most unnecessary thing to ever appear in a comic book panel. There's already an assumption that it's going to be the next second! That's how comic book panels work!
Actually, the word bubble bleeds over into the next panel, and there is no gutter, so it's entirely possible a reader could interpret that this was a single panel (with Duo Stone Boys in the shot, possibly making him ineligible due to the powers-duplication rule).

Stone Boy! Cool.

Well, he could turn to stone, and then Superboy or some other Legionnaire with super-strength could throw him at villains. Hurray for teamwork!

WHERE DID YOU ACQUIRE THIS WEIRD ABILITY?!

Has Caple ever commented on the Von Steingrabber statue at Neue Yankee Stadium

"How did you acquire this weird ability?"

"I listened to ELO and Joe Walsh, and here I am!"

That is exactly how Pulsar Stargrave was defeated. Somebody pushed Bud off a roof onto Stargrave's head.
