Cardinals closer Jason Motte shut down until May, surgery an option | cardinals.com: News

This is not good news.

An MRI taken of Cardinals closer Jason Motte’s right elbow on Tuesday revealed a low-grade tear of the ligament, which, if it doesn’t show improvement over the next three weeks, will require season-ending Tommy John surgery.

I guess this is a good test to see if the bullpen is really going to be elite this year.... Although a pen with scrabble getting significant amount of innings is by definition, far from elite.

Apologies in advance for bringing up Roto baseball, but without Motte what do people think about the team's saves situation? Is Salas likely to get his chance or will it strictly be Boggs/Rosenthal?

It will be Boggs... until he fails too many times.
Basically everyone moved up a spot. Rosenthal moved into the 8th inning role that was Boggs. The team has no confidence in Salas, Mujica is probably moving into the next spot.

The team absolutely loves Mujica... I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him leapfrog Rosenthal for the closers role when(I mean if) Boggs fails... Although Rosenthal should still be considered the favorite at this point in time to take over for Boggs. The team isn't going to panic because of one or two bad appearances by Boggs, he'll be given a pretty good size leash before they replace him.
