Carlton Fisk Arrested for DUI ... In a Corn Field

More waving/pointing than Anthony Fremont in a Red Sox uni!

MLB Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk was arrested for DUI last night in Illinois—after allegedly driving his truck into the middle of a freakin’ corn field ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

According to law enforcement sources, the New Lenox PD received a call about a car in the middle of a corn field around 7:20 PM.

When police arrived, officers say they found Fisk behind the wheel of his F-150—which had a flat tire—and he appeared to be fast asleep. We’re told cops also found an open vodka bottle in the vehicle.

Fisk was placed under arrest on the scene on suspicion of DUI—and taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up. We’re told he refused a blood alcohol test. His car was impounded.

Fisk was released this morning.

It hasn't been a good 24 hours for 1980's White Sox. I hope Richard Dotson is somewhere safe.

Last night was the day following the 37th anniversary of his Game 6 home run in the 1975 Series. Dubious way to celebrate.

Don't want to jump the gun here, but there seems to be quite a bit of evidence suggesting alcohol may have been involved.

Last night was the 37th anniversary of Game 7. Fisk went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts in that one.

So, "no-driving" defense?

We’re told he refused a blood alcohol test.

Or, "no evidence of BAC" defense?

cops also found an open vodka bottle in the vehicle.

In his defense, if you're gonna drive drunk, the middle of a corn field is a pretty good place to do it.

If sleeping in a truck in a cornfield is illegal, over 30% of the people of Illinois should be locked up.

Simulated DA: "This case is about choices... think of the victims... that poor farmer... his whole family... America's economy is built on hard-working farmers... Carlton Fisk made a decision to get drunk and drive through a cornfield, and that decision both hurt America, and emboldenated the terrorists. The People of the State of Illinois, and this copy of 'American Gothic,' request six months in jail, one thousand hours of community service, five years supervised probation with an ignition interlock device in his car and an alcohol detector on his ankle, plus the maximum fines and fees. For the victims. And for freedom."

I hope he gets some help. Drinking to the point of passing out in a cornfield with an open bottle of vodka is about as close to alcoholism as it gets without perhaps being an alcoholic.

He probably is though, and should seek help.

If you guessed that Carlton Fisk was passed out in a cornfield in the middle of nowhere at 7 pm on a Monday in rural Illinois...you are a better guesser than most of us.

If I was Carlton Fisk, I would live in Massachusetts or northern New England, and not pay for anything for the rest of my life.

I'd always thought that it was perfectly legal to drive drunk on private property. There's no evidence that he didn't pull into that cornfield and then down the fifth of vodka and pass out.

IANL, but my understanding is that this varies by state and by situation. The short version is that usually the police won't get involved if there is closed access, that is if it is unlikely that the driver could or would go from the private property to the road (i.e., maybe you built a closed course of some sort on your land). But if there is obvious access to a public road (a mall parking lot would be an obvious example) then the police can and will get involved. In this case there was more than one call about the truck in the corn field, meaning it was probably visible and thus accessible from a public road.

The other issue is of course that this presumably isn't Fisk's private corn field.

Finally, I just noticed that this was New Lenox, IL, which is an outer suburb of Chicago. So it's not like Fisk lives someplace random and in the middle of nowhere like Havana, Paris, Peru, or Milan, Illinois.

And finally finally, he has precisely the same sort of puffy face that a couple of my very alcoholic older relatives have, both of whom pull similar stunts from time to time. This doesn't prove anything, but it suggests something. If Fisk needs help I hope he gets it.

Yeah, old Alfred taught those Bond villains a thing or two.

"Well, Mr. Bond. I can't have you interfering with my plans for world domination. The smart thing to do would be to shoot you in the head and be done with it. But I have a better idea. I'm going to strap you onto this table, and have this industrial laser slowly slice you in half starting with your junk. I'll start down near your feet and leave the room to give you time to think about what you have done."

At this point, the prosecutor is hoping the officer did a halfway decent investigation and asked the important questions that might have lead to an admission of guilt.

Corn silk aft
