CBS: Report: Terry Francona to manage Indians

The next manager of the Cleveland Indians will be Terry Francona, reports Ken Rosenthal [twitter] of Fox Sports. The report also says that an official announcement of the hiring will likely come Monday.

Francona, 53, was an analyst for ESPN this past season, but was previously the Red Sox manager from 2004-2011. He also managed the Phillies from 1997-2000, but he’s most known for his time in Boston.

ESPN.com has a brief report in which Francona calls the news very premature. Maybe that means they are still working on the years & dollars?

Sandy Alomar, Jr. for the Red Sox! Good stuff! Sorry, Mr. Farrell, eh?

Clapper, that link now goes to an AP story on the ESPN site that says he'll be introduced Monday.

That didn't take long. Maybe Francona just had to pass a drug test.

If he's not on drugs, why would he want this job? [/rimshot].

It's kind of fitting that Francona goes to the Indians. That's where his father played for the majority of his career--six years back in the fifties and sixties.

According to Alex Speier in Boston (sox beat writer) says Tito had a brief appearance in an Indian uniform in the movie Major League.

He also made 62 appearances in an Indian uniform in 1988 when he played for them in real life.
