Celizic: Yankees, Mets should be fighting for Manny

While the leader of Red Hat Society is called the Exalted Queen Mother. Celizic is usually called worse.

That’s a shame, because both teams need a big upgrade in left field and it would be a lot more fun if they were to do battle over Manny Ramirez, who grew up in New York. Unfortunately for the headline writers and talk show hosts, neither team seems to be interested in the best right-handed hitter in the game not named Albert Pujols.

The lack of interest is somewhat mystifying. With the Yankees, even Manny’s erratic defensive skills would be an upgrade over a battered and aging Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon, whose arm is shot.

That hat is somewhat mystifying. So is the concept of Manny Ramirez somehow being an upgrade on Johnny Damon defensively.

Yeah, isn't the consensus that Damon is above average in LF, and Manny well below? Off the top of my head, I'd guess it would be a 15-20 run downgrade defensively.

Now, if they know Posada's arm is OK, and they want to think about Manny as a DH, that would be a whole 'nother story. Of course, that requires trading Matsui, and I don't know what that market is like.

I think every setence would be better if the last noun or descriptor had "not named Albert Pujols" after it. Just saying.

I think where Joe C and snapper have made a mistake here is in expecting a hat guy column to have any basis in logic or reason.

Manny would be an upgradde* on Damon and Matsui. They could be his backups, and the Yankees could spend 50 million on the position.

I believe the spelling you are looking for is upgrayedd.

Yes, because that worked so well with "Of Doom."

Notice how I am not using it, just observing it. I mean, with the "Of Doom" thing I had, like, a dozen uses of it by now. I'm not going to make that mistake again.

That would definitely be a mistake not named Albert Pujols.

"a mistake not named Albert Pujols"

Funny...that's my parent's nickname for me...they've never really explained it

Great column. Manny's definitely an NL kinda guy, specially when he gets to be 40. The Mets should absolutely sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal.
