Which next three? The ones in the 9th?
   702. Jose is an Absurd Time Cube Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:39 PM (#5890948)
I’m sure Taylor is a good fielder but there is something about his style out there that always makes me uncomfortable watching him.
   703. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:40 PM (#5890949)
Doo handling the lefty killers well, Hudson ready to go, but I’d definitely have Scherzer ready in case things get weird
   704. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:40 PM (#5890950)
So finally Ozuna takes a couple balls and they're both called strikes.
   705. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:41 PM (#5890952)
See what happens when you take a couple pitches, Marcell?

Pete Kozma, shortstop.

Paul DeJong, shortstop.

Coincidence? Possibly.

Alien influence? DEFINITELY!

Zombie Cardinals not decapitated yet.

OK, nice, a bit of drama.

Time to get Scherzer up
   712. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:54 PM (#5890960)
That was probably their best chance for the apocalyptic meltdown...

still have the 9th though
   713. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:56 PM (#5890961)
w RISP:

Nationals, 4-for-5
Cardinals, 1-for-6

That's the ballgame right there.

Well, that, and a bunch of other stuff.
   714. Jose is an Absurd Time Cube Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:58 PM (#5890962)
I think if you are thinking of Scherzer you have to let him start the inning. Don’t ask a guy who isn’t a reliever to come into a mess.
   715. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:00 PM (#5890963)
You need someone loose but you have a 3 run lead and your closer. If you blow that, well, you blew it.
   716. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:00 PM (#5890964)
7 runs in the first, and looks like they are going to need every one
   717. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:01 PM (#5890965)
I’d bring in Dozier and Taylor for Kendrick and Soto, since their spots probably won’t come up again.
When the Nationals bring Taylor in for outfield defense, they generally replace Adam Eaton, not Soto.
   718. Bourbon Samurai stays in the fight Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:01 PM (#5890966)
3 more outs. Omg
   719. Jose is an Absurd Time Cube Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:03 PM (#5890967)
Little thing I always enjoy. When the home team is ahead in this situation, the momentary moan when the bottom of the 8th ends on the final out then the build of noise as the crowd starts roaring for the ninth.
   720. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:04 PM (#5890968)
If the Nats blow it, they’ll have exhausted their two best relievers and suffered a demoralizing loss.
   721. Jose is an Absurd Time Cube Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:04 PM (#5890969)
I just don’t love Hudson here. If he gets in any trouble he’s going to be around 30 pitches and laboring. If I’m Martinez I hand the ball to Scherzer and tell him to get three outs.
   722. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:04 PM (#5890970)
Wong, Wieters, Edman. No more PH left for Cards.
   723. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5890971)
Is Scherzer available?
   724. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5890972)
Ok, Soto has done a fine job on D. 2 outs to go!
   725. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5890973)
With cards swinging at terrible pitches, I think Hudson is fine.
   726. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5890974)
I’m sure Max would say yes
   727. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 11:08 PM (#5890975)

Honestly, the Cards players just looked resigned after that 1st inning, but they came back to life in the later innings. Definitely made it interesting.

Today is Ted Lerner's 94th birthday, so he just might live long enough to see his team win the World's Series.

   750. Bourbon Samurai stays in the fight Posted: October 16, 2019 at 12:02 AM (#5891000)
When it became clear we weren't going to make the playoffs in 2018, I felt a real sense of loss, because it looked like this team that I had loved, and poured my heart into, would be just another pretty good team that would vanish from baseball history. What I hoped for was at least a pennant, where even if you didn't win the WS, the team would be immortalized in the list of clubs that fought for baseball's greatest prize, and future generations would discover it that way. But after last year, I resigned myself that it wouldn't happen.

This year has been a gift in every way, and regardless of whatever else happens, I can't quite believe I got my wish- this team is on the list. When somebody in 2070 looks through all the World Series past, there it will stand: 2019 NL Champs: Washington Nationals. And maybe that kid will flip through and learn more about our teams, and all the love we put into this club will not be forgotten.

I am delirously happy right now. I would love to win the world series, but right now my team has done what I wanted, hoped, prayed for it to do

Had no idea. And it was hard to put the idea in my head.

I've become an Astros fan. I always had some affinity for them because they are the team of my closest family. My uncle got a bad diagnosis in early 2017 and hoped only to hang on to see them win the Series. They did and he died a few weeks later. I'll always be grateful for that. But I understand your feelings.

We’ll have 4 games in a row, if the series goes that long. I don’t think it’s a problem for the Astros. For the Yankees it’s going to be tough given how much they use the bullpen.

What the Yankees really need is another M. Rivera to walk through that door. Mo pitches 8-9, Chapman and Britton cover 5-7, Green and Kahnle 2-4. Starter only needs one inning. Boone will still probably mess it up by trying to get Ottavino involved.

But that doesn't answer 2 questions:

How does this affect the Astros sign stealing and the Yankees' big whinge about it?

How far will the NY crowd be able to throw their rubbish onto the field when a reviewed call goes against them?

Well, GGBG is out of the 3 spot, but I'm not exactly sure moving Hicks in there is going to be an upgrade. Gleyber! at 4 is positive.
