Chase Utley’s Role Continues Changing

Plus he gives a great World Series parade speech.

Utley’s upside is the “clubhouse presence” he brings, as has been widely reported since he first showed up in LA in mid-2015. As a should-be Hall of Famer, Utley possesses “gravitas and dedication that rubs off on his teammates,” which might be expected of a 39-year-old with his 16-year resume. Six trips to the All-Star Game and a World Series ring are highlights on his reel. With those days gone, his role will likely revolve making contributions in a capacity similar to the one he was considered for with the Phillies earlier in the offseason.

After watching the last couple of months of last season, I was sure his role this year would change to coach, broadcaster, or stay-at-home dad.

How do Gravitas and Dedication stack up against Mystique and Aura?

This story makes it sound like he might not play at all, he's so valuable in this "clubhouse presence" role. And he has a two-year contract! Chase Utley, the new Jason Giambi. Who knew?

Last year BB-ref did give him 1 WAR and says his fielding was slightly above average (1 Rfield, -4 Rbat). Impressive.

Perfect analogy Crispix! I think you'll have to pry the uniform off his cold, dead body for him to walk away.

Or just slide into him and break his legs.

Or just slide into him and break his legs.

Well, then he can't exactly walk away, can he now?

It's been a big month for Rob McElhenney.

Rub some dirt on it and man up.

Gravitas and Dedication are TERRIBLE stripper names

In my day Mystique and Aura were named Trixie and Bubbles

It's looking like Utley won't even get to 2,000 hits. No Hall for you, Mister 65 WAR.

I don't know....Gravitass isn't too bad if you put the accent on the last syllable....but agree, dedication doesn't work (never be a stripper with the word dead in your name is an axiom I hope to teach my daughters.....)

I only let people rub off on me in the privacy of my bedroom, and even then only after I really know them well.
